Did anybody else notice Benson's Demeanor?

I had my binoculars on him after the presentation of the Commisioners Cup. If anybody ever had a mad face on he had one. Makes you wonder what happened at his meeting with the TCU president and AD earlier in the day.
Also he may have noticed that there was no WAC symbol painted on our new turf. That may have tipped him off that we are keeping our options open.

Both very good points! So you think TCU told him to take a hike? Or was he bent because he had to hand the trophy to the AD of a school that's visibly flirting with the idea of defection? Either way, it seems like he had a really bad day.
Hadn't noticed the turf. Personally, I think that's hysterical.

i also noticed the lack of a WAC logo on the field, but didn't notice whether or not we had it on our uniforms.
i'm sure benson had been told 'thanks but no thanks' by TCU earlier in the day.
i appreciate that the guy is trying to better the WAC, but it's a conference of misfits.

WAC symnbol is on the jerseys - my guess is the field would be really expensive to change, so we probably "forgot".

The absence of the WAC logo was pointed out back in the summer when they finished the field. Its no coincidence, but since you guys are just noticing it, let me point out that it may be nothing more than wishful thinking. We have been caught with our pants down with CUSA before. As for Benson looking pissed, maybe he was disgusted by our 1st half performance. I wish Copeland and Turner looked truly pissed...at least enough to do something about it.

Or maybe TCU told him in the morning no thanks, but that SMU and Tulsa would receive their C-USA offers next week.

maybe the SMU administration knows something the rest of us don't?
It's rumored that the Big East will make their announcement to add Louisville and Cincy by the end of Oct, and there is considerable speculation that CUSA wants 12 members that might look like this:
East: ECU, Marshall, USF, UCF, UAB & Memphis
West: Tulane, USM, Houston, TCU, SMU & Tulsa
The bball schools would depart CUSA for Big East and A-10
If this is about to happen, I can understand why Benson would be upset. If the MWC responds by going to 12 teams, the WAC appears headed for extinction. SunBelt would benefit by being able to offer any WAC survivors. If this happens, let's hope it's SMU and Tulsa rather than La Tech. The fact we don't play baseball might hurt our chances. Anyone know how many schools in CUSA play/don't play baseball? What about soccer?

What about Rice? They are conspicuously absence. In a perfect scenario, they should be linked to Houston, Tulane, SMU and TCU.
I respect them most as a university in our region.

Rice is living in their own fantasy world and will likely pay the price for their delusion. Plus, it is ridiculous for Rice to be playing in that barn they call a BB Court-they have had 10 years since the breakup of the SWC and they are no where near a decision that should have been made 25 years ago.. I don't feel sorry for them just as nobody who left SMU in the dust feels sorry for us-because they don't belong in Division 1A just as the Kenneth Pye's of the world don't belong leading an athletic program in Division 1A.

Amen to that. I lived in Houston for three years and went to each SMU game held in that poor excuse for a junior-high basketball court. How they convince kids to go to Rice and play in that dump is beyond me. Every time I saw that big black curtain on the side, I kept thinking the third grade Thanksgiving Day pageant was about to start.

This article may explain by Benson was unhappy. It appears the information about a WAC raid on Conference USA was a leak to the press:

well, don't you have to assume the leak came from Rice? It was a Houston tv station that publicized it, I assure you they don't cover SMU.

Rick Berman, sports director and anchor for KRIV-TV (Fox) in Houston, consistently 'scoops' the other sportscasters on major stories involving sports in this region. Many times, KRIV leads its newscasts with a sports 'scoop' in its 9 p.m. broadcast which has the other stations scrambling to get the same info for their 10 p.m. newscasts. Berman is an animal. Too bad the other stations in this market (and elsewhere) don't have someone as dedicated to sports reporting as he is.

We should all keep our pie-holes shut. We won't be added to anything if we keep playing and competing like crap. So WAC logo or no WAC logo, we don't deserve a dang thing until we compete.
Look at the MAC. Northern Illinois. Gimme a freakin break. Maryland and Alabama in one season! That would pull us out of the doldrums for good!
