Longview Lobos lose to Lake Travis Cavaliers for the Class 4A Div. 1 State Championship, 48-23 at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco. Great crowd on hand for the game with more Lobos fans than Cavs fans in the stadium, IMO.
Lake Travis QB Garrett Gilbert completed 26 of 37 passes for 356 yards to finish his high school career with 12,534 yards, surpassing by two yards current Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell, who threw for 12,532 yards from 2000-03 at Ennis High School.
Gilbert completed TD passes of 26 and 46 yards to Cade McCrary. He also threw a 19-yard score to Chris Aydam, an 11-yarder to Andy Erickson and 1-yard TD to Conner Floyd.
Gilbert, who has verbally committed to the University of Texas, also broke his own single-season passing record with 4,852 yards this year.
Longview's Da'Cedric Hunt rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on a 6-yard run the first time he touched the ball. Longview running back Tyler McCray – who was the Lobos' leading rusher with 111 yards a game and 26 rushing TDs – limped off the field after being injured late in the first quarter and was walking with crutches on the sideline during the second half. He had gained 52 yards on seven carries before leaving the game.

BEST MOMENT OF THE GAME: During the Longview band's half-time performance, the Lake Travis players took the field to warm-up in the south end zone out to the 15-yd. line, as well as Gilbert throwing passes to receivers from the 25 yd. line. The Longview band marches military-style and uses the whole field including the end zones. They continued marching RIGHT THRU the LT players and brought the Lobos fans to their feet cheering for them! Classless act by the LT players; great moment for the Longview band and fans!
