Every year, college football fans get caught up in some "major" controversy with the BCS rankings. They spend hours talking about obscure statistics and cursing computer formulas. This year, it was Oklahoma and Texas fans battling it out for the right to play in the Big 12 and National Championship games. Texas fans were devastated when they lost the rankings fight.
But the real tragedy for this team is that only 40 percent of its players, and only 27 percent of its black players, will graduate. Texas' football players put the University on the national stage. And what do they get in return? Besides the precious few that will make it to the NFL, most will leave school without a degree and with few career prospects.

At least we are doing things the right way and can be proud of our STUDENT-athletes even with the continual losing seasons. The real mission of a school is to educate.....not play college athletics. Perhaps A. Kenneth Pye knew what he was doing when he was running the show at SMU!

No, Ken was clueless. He alienated most alumns, split the university community and was turned on by every then President SWC schools that now are members of the Big 12--All theory and no practical sense doesn't make a good leader. The unversity survived, but we are still feeling the effects of his righteous but impractical ideals.

Hey troll:
The seasons you so enjoy pointing out are continual, not continuous, and while you're lauding the fact that SMU educates at the expense of athletic success, you might suggest that A. Kenneth Pye Knew what he was doing ...

You were the one who threw out your smug "mission of a school is to educate" stance in an effort to (I guess) be funny. It wasn't, but since you brought it up, the weird-avatar guy just followed your lead... maybe because he got that education you were mocking.
Plagiarize!
Let no one else's work evade your eyes.
Remember why the good lord made your eyes.
So don't shade your eyes, just
Plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize!
(Only be sure always to call it, please .... "research.")

It's funny, because he shouldn't have capitalized the 'K' he bolded.
Sir, shooting-star, sir. Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.

If losing is an education, then SMU can expect decades of Nobel prize winning alums.
