My thoughts supporting SMU football year one…

I chose SMU because of its proximity, and the stunning beauty of the school.
I bought season tickets before the hire of Jones

I began my journey with no real expectations. I showed up to the signing party at the Radisson early this year , the football luncheon , the spring game, and 7 or 8 practices at the hill top.

I knew with out having a real connection to the school it wasn’t going to be the same as my previous college experience where my son attended. None the less I forged my way into the stands, the tailgates and tried to get my feet wet.

I wanted to be a positive influence as a newcomer to the many tainted fans of SMU football. But as the season unfolded I could see my self fighting what I did not want to become. A loser, associated with one of the worst athletic programs in recent history.

I purchased an entire ward robe of SMU colors for events. I bought car flags. Only to find out after 8 games I was too timid to fly them.
I still wore my jackets and shirts only to be laughed at local establishments and asked why are you wearing an SMU shirt?

In my life I have rarely made blind choices based on something that looks pretty and is close rather than thinking out the logistics of probable out come.

I stood on the rail at the fifty and watched the team loose their final game of the season.
It was for that one moment that I felt I was connected to this team; a feeling of emotion came over me. I had endured with them, and others.

But why should I endure this pain?
It is for this reason I will turn in my season tickets to football and basketball and head over to Fort Worth to support a team that will not leave me feeling empty, with out hope for a better tomorrow.

Best Regards

1TP, I enjoyed the beers we had. Also enjoyed the content of your manifesto. Truthfully, if I penned a thread along the lines of "my thoughts on SMU football" or whatever, I don't think I'd get much past "man, we still suck."

Anyway, best wishes. Ft Worth is closer to your hacienda anyway, right? Most importantly, are you now One Trick Frog? 8)

Godspeed.

You sound like so many Dolphin Fans last year when we barely won one stinkin game by a fluke.

A year later everyone is back on the bandwagon saying they knew all along the Dolphins would be sitting pretty this year.

Now aren't you going to feel bad when JJ turns this proggie around and you bailed?

lol, no real loss here. Kind of egomaniacal to expect everyone else to care. I mean really, just walk away. We'll be on the Blvd when the team starts winning, and we'll even let you drink our beer when you come back.

OTP: As the author of the original Mustang Manifesto, I can truly understand your frustration. I have been watching SMU football and basketball games since the early 1960s. Yeah, I took a vacation from SMU for a short time but I came back. You've only been watching for 1 season!

I enjoyed meeting you at the summer practice sessions. I'm not gonna try to talk you into coming back to SMU. I'll just say that it'll be interesting to see your reaction when SMU plays TCU the next time and defeats the team that you now support!

GO MUSTANGS!
