SMU nearly ignored in Cotton Bowl piece

UT, TCU figure prominently in DMN look back at Cotton's New Year's history. (Diss is more evident in print edition with UT's Duke Carlisle getting wallpaper photo treatment. Doak Walker squeezed into two-inches in lower right corner of double-page spread.) evil:

And, in advance, for all you DMN apologists, s--k it.

The DMN sucks as a newspaper in my opinion, but what do you think sells papers - longhorns or ponies?

This is an old, worn-out discussion. I'm well aware of the demographics. I still have fun calling it The Bevo Corporation.

Wouldn't have hurt to have Doak featured more prominently; SMU's win over Oregon and tie with Penn State trumps TCU crap. It IS the DALLAS Morning News.

Dickerson-James in '83 too.

I don't know if it is any help to know...but SMU was featured prominently in the history clips shown before, during and after the game yesterday. It was really nice... besides you can't count on the Dallas Morning News for anything good anymore...

newspapers are not interested in telling the news...they are interested in selling newspapers.

check demo numbers, and you see that coverage of UT, aTm, OU makes more sense than devoting coverage to a hometown school that doesn't have enough living alumni to sell out the new Jerry World.

It is a dying media that is trying desperately to retain relevance in a cyber world... Read it, or don't...or just take the jt route and leave your expectations at the door re the DMN.

We all know that. But there's nothing wrong with continuing to point out their faults. I refuse to give up!

I guess the real issue, mr. pony is spending time and resources ( not to mention energy ) jousting with the windmill that is the DMN. SMU's relationship with the paper has been friendly, but hardly reciprocal in nature. We are relevant only when it is at the DMN's convenience ( ie winning or scandal ) of meeting job 1: selling newspapers. Is it fair ? No...

but it is reality. Use the DMN for your own purposes, but realize that their agenda is part and parcel to the equation, and will always trump any other.

I don't have any burr in the saddle with them, or Dale H, Belo, et. al. You just realize that their primary mission is....well, you already know. It is the handshake with the devil, per se.

They did use the famous Doak pose -- but changed the colors and used 73 instead of 37...

Yes, it's where they have to sell papers too. DALLAS loves a winner and SMU sucks, which is why they get all of the coverage they deserve.
