masochismalright, since I had it on Tivo, I watched some of the Okie State game last night. First of all, when I was at the game I thought Jonas was whining about the first pass interference call in the end zone. He was right. I don't know how they call that on Jonas. Woods shoved Jonas in the back, turning him around as the ball arrived. I'm not as discouraged about the defense as I was before. We stopped them on the first possession. Made them work for a td from the 2 following the quick intereception. Held them to a field goal on the possession following the blocked punt. And on the 4th possession, they ran back a short, line drive punt to the 20 and punched it in. Voila, 17-0 and our defense hadn't really even made a mistake. That is demoralizing folks. Then the onslaught began. The quickest way to improve this team is for the punting to improve. Thats good news in way.
Re: masochismI did the same thing - sat through the entire game, then re-watched it at home. (HoopFan, what's wrong with us?)
Anyway, you're right - Jonas was in terrific position on two touchdowns and decent position on a third. He got blatantly shoved on two of them. That's why on one of them, he wasn't lobbying for the call - he just KNEW it was on Woods. With all that in mind, he still had a rough night, and it was obvious that he was completely frustrated. Jonas, it was just one of those nights. We know how talented you are, and we know you'll come up big. Plagiarize!

Re: masochismI agree that the refs completely blew the pass interferance call, but other than that, I have to disagree.
Woods uncharacteristically dropped about 100 yards worth of balls in the 1st qtr before finally warming up. He was wide open. Woods could very easily have ended the day with 350 yards and 63 points. Of course, had he caught those balls, he may not have still been in there after halftime. We did a fair job stopping the run, but there was ZERO pass rush. Also, by halftime OSU was subbing a lot of second stringers, so technically the game wasn't as close as the 46 pt. spread indicates. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: masochismWould we have had a pass rush if OSU didn't leave the tight end and either one or two backs in on almost every play -- allowing Fields to camp out behind a seven- or eight-man pocket?
Plagiarize!

Re: masochismHey Punch, believe me, you can't put lipstick on a pig and make it any prettier. We got torched. But we also got demoralized defensively because of the turnovers, field position and quick scores that resulted. When have we ever had a pass rush other than a few random Utep games? You expected one against Ok State? I didn't. All I wanted was a respectable showing. I think the defense tried to go toe to toe and all I am saying is that after watching the tape, the game was over before the defensive breakdowns even started. So how much stock do you put in a frustrated team making mental mistakes? I say, it might not be as bad as we thought. I'm no polyanna either. Now the offensive line...ugh.
Re: masochismIt's hard to run or pass behind a bad line. I don't care who the QB is this team is going to have a very rough year. Phillips may come in and do some good things but is he going to materially affect the W/L column? Is it really good for him or the team for him to play this year? If his red-shirt does come off it makes no sense unless he plays a lot as in being the starter.
I have watched half of the OSU game. I can only take it a quarter a night. 2 definite PIs on Woods so far when Jonas was defending. 2 other TDs were on the safeties. Woods is the Michael Irvin of college football. The NFL has cracked down on pushing off. I guess the NCAA hasn't.
