The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award is an annual College Football award given to the Division I-Bowl Subdivision head coach whose team excels on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The award was established in 1976 to honor the values that Coach Dodd exemplified. The recipients are chosen by a selection committee composed of college football experts.
The 2008 recipient is the University of Texas' Mack Brown.
What a joke. Bobby Dodd is spinning in his grave.

That's it  they should abolish the award immediately.

Unreal. As a coach, Mack would be my #1 choice all day for ANY school. Class act in the lockerroom, lobbying aside.
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

If it really does take into account the team's actions in the classroom and in the community, I would think they missed the mark on this one. Doesn't Texas have an extremely low graduation rate? And their off the field problems have been discussed at length on here. ( see most posts by insane pony posse.) As a coach, however, his on the field success and recruiting are excellent.

Didn't say anyone was a moron. Your attitude has really taken a turn for the worse lately. All dealing with the Longhorns. I wasn't being critical. I really thought their grad rate was low. Get the chip off the shoulder.

If I recall, the Teasips had multiple arrests the past year or two.
Good recruiter, not a great coach.

I don't question his class, and as a recruiter he might be without peer. But I can't remember a game when he made a significant in-game change that affected the outcome of a game. He undoubtedly is a good coach, but I've never seen anything to suggest he's one of the elite.
Whatever - yawn - still hate UT.

"In recognition of a high and more noble aspect of college coaching…a style that emphasizes something more than winning the game…a belief that the game of football should be kept in perspective with college life in general."

Does whining about your rank count in this category?

Obsessing on all Texas on the SMU board is pretty funny also. Cheers.
