Where's Peruna

Was Peruna seen during the OSU contest? Don't they usually run him across the field when the players enter the stadium? Is the new turf too good for Peruna to graze or whatever?

He was there. I saw him (I think) between quarters, and again after the game.

He was there, and they did run. He also did the runs after the quarters and after halftime. A couple of OSU players had to dodge out of his way when he ran when the players came out and before the game. Where were you?

Must have had my head down coach - out of position as usual.

His van said Peruna VIII. How long have we had this pony, he looked taller and skinnier than others we've had?

Because our mascot has been the Shetland pony since just about when this school opened, so really one or two guys [deleted] about it isn't gonna change years of tradition.
Quit you whining, baby

Spaz-
I could've sworn that when the school opened we were the SMU Mustangs and still are. Never remember when we were the SMU Shetland Ponies.

Spaz Out!!

No you blithering idiot, I mean PERUNA has always been a Shetland Pony. And we are also known as the PONIES...
As in PONY Battle Cry
Go Ponies Go
You wanna pay for the purchase and upkeep of a Mustang for the school, be my guest, I'm sure they won't mind.
But I'd rather not defecate on a mascot that we've had for almost a century.
Course that's just me.

SPAZ OUT, INDEED!!!

Originally we were not the Mustangs. We were the Parsons. Or something like that.

Not that that little factoid has anything to do with the Peruna/Mustang/Shetland Pony argument.

par·son
n.
An Anglican cleric with full legal control of a parish under ecclesiastical law; a rector.
A member of the clergy, especially a Protestant minister.

Oh boy, am I glad we changed THAT....
Announcer "And the Parsons score again!!"
That wouldn't look so PC in this day and age.

Actually the shetland pony has been our live mascot since we started calling ourselves the Mustangs. Peruna has been one of the most storied mascots in SWC history. He killed the Fordham Ram in NYC in the 30's after a harrowing cab ride (I'm not making this up). He tried to mate with the Tech horse. He kicked Bevo in the stomach. He scared the Baylor Bear up into the stands. He bit numerous cheerleaders on their backsides (too bad I couldn't get away with that). Ran through numerous bands and football teams. Despite his size, Peruna has always had an edge. Apparently, several handlers have suffered injuries due to his running them into walls or other people. On the other hand, his size makes him approachable by children. He usually allows them to pet him and offer him sweets. Peruna is a great mascot.
