Of course it could be read that if he is not disappointed with not being in a bowl in 24 then he should be fired.

That isn't the most interesting Jones quote in this article.

Hawaii going to the Sugar Bowl was "a bigger deal than when Hawaii became a state."

The "life isn't fair" quote was a bit disturbing. While that is certainly true, and I have no reason to doubt Jones' reasons for dismissing these players, the same rules should apply to everyone on the team.
Back off Warchild seriously.

on Big Margus:
"If I was in the NFL, I would've signed this guy," said Jones. "After four years with me, or maybe three years, he may be a first- or second-round draft pick."

Jimmy Johnson didn't coach that way.

True. I see your point.
Also, I think June needs to tap the brakes on the Margus Hunt march to the NFL Hall of Fame talk. Lets put the pads on first before we start preparing the induction speech.
Back off Warchild seriously.

He said that he even encouraged several players to appeal the decision
??? I'm cutting you, but you should appeal it?

Oh, they won't be let back on the team no matter what. But they may retain their scholarships. As JJ mentions, scholarships are a privilege and are year to year.
This is long overdue at SMU. It's one of two ways winners are made and is the flipside of the way we tried to do it in the 1980's.

Well I'll give him credit for at least saying it to the Faculty Club where the Athletic Department has few supporters. I bet we'll see an Op-Ed from our favorite Spanish teacher within days.

I'd rather have an OpEd from Nacho Libre.

"Beneath the clothes, we find a man... and beneath the man, we find his... nucleus."
