Please forgive me if this is old news, but I just came across this article in Monday's LA Daily News.

http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_11763455

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel is going with experience and will hire SMU assistant head coach Tim Hundley as the Bruins' new secondary coach, with an announcement coming as early as today, according to sources.

Hundley spent six seasons as a UCLA assistant from 1990-95, and worked on Neuheisel's staff at Colorado and Washington. The only thing holding up the announcement is Hundley's official acceptance of the position, but that is expected, sources added.

I don't recall meeting or hearing him speak. As assistant head coach/defense, what was his role? He wasn't defensive coordiator. What role did he play? Was he a major recruiter? I don't recall any mention by this year's class of meeting him. Any idea why he wanted to leave--other than the above mentioned?

He was UTEP's DC before coming here last season; he was DC at Colorado before that and I forget where else. I think he was coaching LB's. He was a solid recruiter, I think. Good for him. Only real problem is this staff is light on Texas natives. HE at least had been in Texas several years.

I guess he is kind of a Neuheisel guy since he coached with him in Colorado and Washington. They may have coached at UCLA together before.

Oh, and someone mentioned it in another thread, but his son plays for the San Diego Padres.

That makes alot of sense, thanks. I was thinking that maybe JJ had him up there as Asst Head Coach so that he might one day get a shot at as Head Coach somewhere, given that he has really paid his dues.

They need to hire someone who is a serious recruiter to replace him. It will be interesting to see who they hire.

There are alot of quality HS coaches in the area that would fit in well @ SMU.
I think Doak Stallion over @ Bryan Adams would be a good fit.

Dan Reeves might need a job (Just a little joke). Not much turnover in the Southwest area in last year so I'm having trouble coming up names.

Any good DISD head coaches we could interview? Maybe the Carter, Sklyine or Kimball head coach?

oooppps it looks like the Kansas City Chiefs jumped on Gary Gibbs as soon as he was fired. He was hired as their Defensive Coordinator. Dwan how come you only keep up with the firings and not the hirings of Gibbs? Obviously another Golden Opportunity lost.
