2009 schedule

Postby CA Mustang » Wed Mar 11, 2009 1:37 pm

Any word on when SMU's schedule will be released? Rice released their schedule today, so CUSA must be finished (or close to it) in scheduling conference games. http://riceowls.cstv.com/sports/m-footb ... 09aaa.html

Interesting items:
*For those who hoped SMU would get a shot at Rice early, CUSA didn't hear you. SMU will host Rice on Nov. 7.
*Navy plays @ Rice on Oct. 10 and @ SMU on Oct. 17. Will they consider staying the week in Texas?

We're at Tulsa on Halloween.

We've got a great tailgating experience and a chance to turn the BOOlevard into a tradition, maybe get some exposure for the program.

But no, the Boulevard will be empty on Halloween.

Another missed opportunity.

SMU Announces 2009 Football Slate

Mustangs Open With SFA

March 11, 2009

DALLAS (SMU) - Year two of the June Jones era kicks off with a home game against Stephen F Austin on Sept. 5, it was announced today. The SFA game is the first of 12 straight for the Mustangs in 2009, with SMU's bye week not coming until Thanksgiving weekend.

After hosting SFA, SMU will open Conference USA play by traveling to Birmingham to take on UAB on Sept. 12. The Mustangs will then head out west on Sept. 19 to tackle Washington State.

A home game with Tulane is slated for Sept. 26 before SMU heads to Ft. Worth to battle for the Iron Skillet with TCU on Oct. 3.

Defending C-USA champion East Carolina comes to Dallas on Oct. 10 before Navy comes calling on Oct. 17. SMU will then have back-to-back road games at Houston (Oct. 24) and Tulsa (Oct. 31).

Rice (Nov. 7) and UTEP (Nov. 14) then come to Gerald J. Ford Stadium for back-to-back C-USA games before the Mustangs go east to take on Marshall in the regular-season finale on Nov. 21.

The Conference USA Championship game is slated for Dec. 4.

Game times have not yet been set.

SMU opens Spring Practice on Monday, March 30.

Playing on Texas/OU weekend is fine as long as we're not playing during their game.

Sets up well

Postby newshound » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:31 pm

Thanks to the scheduling gods, SMU's schedule sets up well early in the season with a I-AA (SFA) followed by three of the worst teams in the country last season (at UAB, at Washington State and Tulane). Then, it's reality check at TCU.

Once again, we are home the same day as Texas/OU (Oct. 17 vs. Navy). Let's hope our game is at night and the Red River Rivalry is an 11 a.m. kickoff (like last season), so we can watch the early game and tailgate.

Also, the weekend we go to Tulsa, Texas is at Oklahoma State. With good timing, you could catch both games, making it worth the drive.

Still wish we would move the TCU game to Nov. 28 (and play it in Arlington), since our season ends on Nov. 21. Would be nice to have a bye week during the season, especially right there when the schedule starts to toughen up.

Okay, who's riding the Amtrak Cardinal with me from DC to Huntington in November. I found Marshall fans to be some of the nicest in the Conference. They saw my SMU sweatshirt and invited me over for a beer and some roast pork. Huntington is a rust belt town, but the Marshall folks go out of their way to be hospitable.
