Thanks Proudmama,
Great article, hope Evan is having fun and enjoying college life> Does he like the new defensive scheme ? Really good interview too ! Life after Death (Penalty)
I think the 3-4 has the potential to be a disaster. We simply don't have the right linemen. I am a big Evan fan, but I just don't think he is going to make a good NT.
I hope I am wrong. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
think about if parham and evan get injured... then what are we going to do!?

Something needs to be done. I agree I don't think its a schematic issue, but more that we just don't have the caliber athletes to play consistently good defense. However, with the offenses we are going to play in CUSA the 3-4 might give us a chance to play better sideline to sideline defense and better pass defense if indeed Yenga adjusts to a stand-up LB.
Back off Warchild seriously.
I think if we show up in September trying to run a new scheme "full speed" for the first time it could be a disaster. But I think SMU's projected first string fits the 3-4 better than the 4-3-and I think Thompson and hopefully Frazier fit better in a 3-4. Not sure Parham has the ability to hold the middle. Evan is definitely more 3-4 NT type than he is a 4-3 DT type. Depth is a problem no matter what we run-we don't have quality depth.
What do we have to lose? In a 4-3, we didn't have the lineman to plug up the run and our linebackers were constantly dealing with big O lineman. In the 3-4, we have a chance to make big O lineman perform more complex scoop blocks. With decent D line play (don't have to be huge, just quick enough to tie up O lineman) we may free up our backers to make plays. And if we can stop the run just a bit more, we may create more manageable 3rd down for our secondary. Also, the outside backers are in a better position to take advantage of speed and quickness on pass rush. Keith Beverly was an outside linebacker in a 3-4 and was a heck of a pass rusher (as was Rush Washington). Neither were huge but could take advantage of their speed and quickness in a 3-4.
The most important thing for us is finding guys who can consistently rush the passer. Yenga was our only serious pass rusher last year. We saw flashes from Fleming, Thompson, etc. but nothing that ever made you think that guy could do it consistently. Teams are going to make someone other than Youri beat us and right now I don't think we know who that guy is.
Back off Warchild seriously.
I like the move because not only does it fit some of our personell better, but I think it is easier to recruit from. There are plenty of really good HS DEs who are too small to play DE in college that make outstanding OLB in the 3-4.
Well, it's not like we were blowing it up the last two years with the group we were sending out there anyway. For your DE, they have to have great foot speed off the edge so they can cut to the inside. You want your NT to be a plugger so he can disrupt and funnel everything through the two MLBs. Is this going to work with who we have? I have no idea. Just ride the wave and see what happens.
