When he was signed out of tiny Brusly, La., there were many who knew nothing about Chris Butler. Now the junior-to-be is the elder statesman among SMU running backs, and has begun spring workouts as the starting tailback.

In an offense known for its potent passing attack, Butler says the running backs play a number of vital roles that he and the other young SMU running backs are ready to fill.
