Damn, wonder who we will get now, probably an intern scouring Ponyfans.com and rehashing stories he reads.

That should certainly result in the banning of a few of us!

Where's the list Austin? I was trying to see who specifically got laid off. I know a number of people at Bevo.

I talked to her a week ago @ ford and asked her how she was doing, she mentioned that this was a possibility, was on her mind.

I asked her what she would do if she walked in today and they said come on in and shut the door behind you. She’s good.

The Houston Chronicle did the same thing with the Rice Correspondent. If the DMN were smart they should just have an independent contractor relationship with Rivals or Scout or both on beat coverage. Then double-up with writers on game coverage. They have the contacts and specialization to cover the SMU scene the way it should. This is exactly what they have done with their recruiting coverage. Then they have reduced costs for salary, medical benefits. retirement etc. It could be one less source of information but this is the direction newspapers are going. I'd be kinda surprised if there was a new SMU beat writer in the traditional sense-I don't think the Chronicle is planning to replace the Rice correspondent who was extremely popular with Rice fans.

Apparently the Sports desk was hit hard. I saw they lost 13 yesterday.

I hear Houston Chronicle actually nuked all college coverage. Newspapers are dying fast.

Here's the best site for info on the layoffs-note 13 layoffs in the Sports Department- a long list of those who got RIFed have left comments. SMU Alumnus Keith Whitmire was also let go. Sports Department looks like it may be impacted the most If they turn this into Pro Sports only paper I'm going to drop my subscription so fast-

The news paper is almost dead. Virtualy no raw product cost on the web, and you dont wack trees. Some people still like to get ink on thier fingers however...

The Houston Chronicle also let the UH beat writer go. Both MK Bower (Rice) and Michael Murphy (UH) were replaced by other Chronicle writers. It is sad to see.
