Football: UNT's Russo granted transfer

11:42 PM CDT on Monday, May 4, 2009

By Brett Vito / Staff Writer

Kyle Russo enjoyed playing for North Texas and his long-time head coach Todd Dodge the last two years.

But the more the sophomore defensive end thought about his future, the more he felt like he needed to transfer and find a school that better fit his long-term plans of going to law school.

Russo discussed those feelings with Dodge late last week and finalized his plans to transfer. Dodge gave Russo a release that will allow him to transfer to any school other than those in the Sun Belt Conference, of which UNT is a member.

“Leaving was tough because coach Dodge and I have been close for eight years, but I knew that with the career that I envision, I need a program that fits what I want to do and that is go to law school,â€

What does he weigh now? He is looking for a good education that will prepare him for Law school. Sounds like SMU if coach wants him.

Another D-line player - YEAH.

Subtext: NTSU blows. The only people in Texas that want NTSU to get a law school are the NTSU grads and the Thurgood Marshall graduates and faculty looking forward to the day when their school is not bringing up the rear of the bar passage rates.

Aside from his size, is he any good? They did have the only defense in Div 1 that was worse than us last year.

I heard he was 6'4 and 251. We watched him play at Southlake and at a few UNT games last year. Can he play? Yes. According to the UNT stats he lead the d line in tackles. SMU sounds like a good fit for him.

Barwin, Connor DE 6'4" 256 Cincinnati Pick 14, Round 2 (46)
Brown, Cody DE 6'2" 244 Connecticut Pick 31, Round 2 (63)
Brown, Everette DE 6'2" 256 Florida State Pick 11, Round 2 (43)
Butler, Victor DE 6'2" 248 Oregon State Pick 10, Round 4 (110)
Norris, Slade DE 6'2" 232 Oregon State Pick 26, Round 4 (126)

20 lbs. is not to hard to put on.... and thats just a small sample of the DE's drafted in the first 4 rounds.... do you know what Justin Rogers weighed when he came to SMU?

Well, that's not his weight if you looked at my post. And my information is more current and more accurate than what's listed.
