LBs coach candidate?

Postby Dark Horse » Wed May 06, 2009 6:46 pm

Heard from a friend that former SD Chargers LB Woodrow Lowe has expressed interest in the LBs coaching job vacated when Coach Hundley left for UCLA — google says he has coached in high school and college, so he has some experience. He also said someone who played for Coach Jones in the NFL is in the mix for one of the vacancies, but didn't know who. Anyone know?

He was at UAB a couple of years ago, and then coached high school.

at least one of the new coaches needs to be a recruiting ace. Every school has them-most have 3.

I would feel good if Eric Metcalf is hired, he's well known, great career at UT and the NFL, and only 41 years old.

I agree, Alex.

Metcalf's got a name that means something in the state, and he's young enough that kids can look to him as guy who knows what it takes to get to the NFL. Which is what every kid who plays college football wants, regardless of whether it's realistic or not.

Metcalf would be an excellent hire.

ONLY 41? Seems not so long ago we were watching him on college, not to mention his NFL career.
I've also heard Metcalf has been on campus. Maybe he's the guy who played for June who the original poster was referring to?
Would hate to have anyone around who wore the silly cow skull on his college helmet, but I bet he'd be a pretty decent addition to the staff. At least recruits would know who he was.

Of the current 5 commits 4 were made by coach Hill are the other coaches working on a different recruiting plan.

You can safely put Coach Reinebold in that "recruiting ace" status, and I'd say Coach Odum belongs there, too. I don't know enough, but I'm inclined to maybe put Coach McKnight in that group, too. If Coach Hill is now in that group, that's pretty good.

I did find something that said Lowe was thought of as a pretty good recruiter at UAB, but I don't think he had a lot of success as a HS coach.

Thought that was pretty funny, too.

Anyone know what kind of recruiter Lowe was at UAB?
