I doubt Jones will leave SMU if he has success here. At his age and station in life, as long as he is treated well here, I think he'll stick around. As far as their prescription for a coach as a young up and comer, we've been there and done that. We needed to say that we want to be a player in college basketball and Doh was the best name available at the time. I believe that if SMU could get strong in basketball, that it could sustain keeping a coach for a long time. Georgetown kept Thompson for 25 years after coaching HS at St. Anthony's. And I recall when he was hired, he came to my high school to scout players in a middle of the road talent tourney. From that he built a great program. CUSA has a great basketball pedigree. UTEP, UH, Memphis, UAB and Tulsa all have made deep runs in the tournament. UCF has danced recently. Just as the SWC rose with the tide in the mid to late 70's after UH joined, if SMU could step it up in basketball, we could keep a coach.

One of the worst articles I have ever read.

Pretty sure if we get successful in the next 5 years, most coaches will be happy to stay and or take over a winning program whose boosters raised 10 mil. in the course of a week....

I agree that Jones should be here for a long while. He's not "looking for his next job", since he's done it all. He may end up going back to Hawaii and coaching there again some day but for now hes going to be at SMU.

I think ultimately if things go good, big if, for basketball, Doh would be one that would leave for something else. That being said, if he gets our BB team to the point where people want him to come coach at their school I think we all would be very happy.

I agree. Trying to raise the hypothetical, suggesting motives for others and presenting opinion as logic is not only weak, but boring.

I wish I'd said that. Thanks. Good job.

The guy clearly needed something to write about.

The most interesting part of the article to me was the first reply.

Came off to me as something someone in smu athletic dept might write. Then I looked to the left and noticed the author "Mark" has a gold helmet avatar.

I'm still trying to think who might have a gold helmet avatar and speak of SMU as "we"?
