Justin Willis: UP AND RUNNING

After two years as SMU's starting quarterback, Justin Willis moved to wide receiver in 2008, a transition that was at times frustrating. But then Willis burst out with a career-high 11 receptions in SMU's season finale against Southern Miss, and appeared poised to continue his ascent among the SMU wideouts.

But the work Willis put in learning his new position, and rededicating himself in the weight room in anticipation of his final season at SMU, was derailed by a leg injury suffered during spring workouts.

Willis visited with PonyFans.com to discuss the injury, the recovery, and when he expects to return to the field for SMU.

Great Story, very ironic in that I logged on PF today specifically to find the Justin Willis thread and see if he was possibly going to be able play this season.

Nice to hear that he is on track to make it back...

Good Luck Justin!!!!!!!

I'm hoping he is able to be a big-time contributor and has the best year of his SMU career.

It would be really great if Justin's amazing growth as a human being was rewarded with a great season.....and a bowl (hey! I know it is not going to happen, but it would be lovely for Justin - and the rest of us - if it did)

Couldn't agree more. His career at SMU has been one hell of a ride, and I'm rooting for No. 16 to have a huge senior season.

Also true. He had every reason to walk away, but he didn't, and he could hang 'em up now.
Thank for your dedication to SMU, Justin. Proud to have you on my team!

That is truly awesome. It would have been very easy for Justin to transfer or be a negative influence on the team after his suspension, but he showed what kind of person he is by buying into what SMU is trying to do. Regardless of his future playing football, Justin Willis will be successful in his future endeavors.

Couldn't agree more. In his early years, I worried about his maturity. Now he sounds like a real leader on this team.
Thanks for another great story.

The injury was pretty drastic. Good to hear his rehab is going well.
