Need opinions/adviceI have just been invited to the Tennessee-Alabama game on Oct. 17. That's running against SMU-Navy. This is a pretty interesting position because there are free tickets and a tailgate involved. If this was on a week we were out of town, I would have no problem.
But as college football fans, don't we owe it ourselves to check out some of the bigger games in the country when we have the chance? It's a heated rivalry as SEC fans know especailly in lieu of what Phil Fulmer did to Alabama a couple of years ago. As the song says, "Should I stay or should I go?"
Re: Need opinions/adviceKnock yourself out. Enjoy a different football venue. I face a similar dilemma in Nov. On the 7th, I will be at the LSU vs. Alabama game. Thus, I will miss homecoming. For a variety of reasons, I can't pass up the opportunity to see LSU-Alabama this year. Besides, we might learn something new about tailgating that could add to the blvd experience. So look at it as a fact finding mission.
Re: Need opinions/adviceyes I think it would be great if more posters on this board actually watched quality college football games.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Need opinions/adviceGo, and don't even give a second thought about it.
Re: Need opinions/adviceI will be in Hawai for that game and the next
Re: Need opinions/adviceGo, but don't post a score prediction for that game on the board. We don't care.
Re: Need opinions/adviceWhy is this even a proposed question? Tenn-Bama is one of the best rivalry games in college football. SMU will win 4 games at the most this year.......and Navy won't be one of them.
Re: Need opinions/advice
Yes, but only when you are unable to watch your team play. If memory serves, you're already skipping a game when your team is playing in Fort Worth. I know, you have family interests in the other game ... whatever. But no, when your team is at home, you go to your team's game, thank your friends for the invitation and promise them you'll take them up on it another time. Besides, the Tennessee/Alabama highlights will be on SportsCenter. Fire up the BBQ and pour a cold one when you watch those. Re: Need opinions/adviceGo see Tennessee -Alabama. Just make sure not to wear the color of the visiting team. Then again, a good West Point man should go to see if Navy might get its britches swatted by the Mustangs.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Need opinions/adviceIf you're going to go to that other game, and it sounds like you are, be sure to wear an SMU jersey.
Nothing like spreading the word to 100,000 football fans to remind them about the Mustangs. Got a Dickerson jersey? "Mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in .... next to soccer."

Re: Need opinions/adviceMy buddies and I try to catch one big college game each year but I would never let it conflict with a TCU home game. So my vote is to watch SMU.
Re: Need opinions/adviceI worry about the future of SMU football when SMU fans as big as you are consider ditching a home game for some other game, regadless of the match-up. This is not a good sign.
Re: Need opinions/adviceNeither is losing 22 out of 24 games. That tends to have a somewhat negative affect on fan enthusiasm and participation.
