Any word on whether or not Shawnbrey McNeal is academically eligible or when he will know if he has gotten the waiver from the NCAA to be able to play this season?

No word yet, but with Broderick Green getting the ok from USC to Arkansas for reasons less solid than Shawnbrey, I feel confident in NCAA approval. The academic side of it is still up in the air as far as I know.

If Broderick Green from Arkansas also happened to be 7th on the depth chart at USC

And he will also be about 7th on the depth chart at Arkansas. They are already speculating him as a 3rd and short, or 4th and short specialist due to his size. Arkansas is stacked with RBs.

Is this the kid from Dallas who played for Miami? I thought I heard someone say he needed to be close to home because a family member was very sick. If this is the player, are we waiting for the NCAA to approve him for academic reasons or because of a "family hardship"?

The NCAA has to approve him for eligibilty this upcoming year based on hardship rather than having to sit out a year. I believe that he will be granted that waiver. He is rumored, however, to possibly be short on the academic requirements that would enable him to be eligible. So there are 2 hurdles that must be overcome.

To my understanding the grades are looking better, just waiting on the NCAA waiver to be approved.

That reference doesn't make any sense. Larry Johnson did not attend SMU solely because Kenneth Pye made it so. The NCAA had nothing to do with it.

Larry Johnson would have been a freshman on the 1988 team that won the SWC regular season championship, the conference tournament, and beat Notre Dame in the 1st round on the NCAAs on St. Patrick's Day and then lost to Duke in the 2nd round.

That wasn't the year we almost beat Georgetown?
OK, I'm mixed up.
