E.J. Drewery moving to LB

Absolutely love this move. He's another big guy who can run, and it's possible to imagine scenarios a year or two down the road where you have Thompson and Frazier or Hunt at DE, and Drewery and Fleming at OLB. All are tall, have long arms and can really run. This continues the overhaul of the defense to include guys who have the size and speed to fit the season.
Good luck, E.J.

or maybe he just can't catch or he is too slow at position and this is a last chance to see if he can fit somewhere else before its time for him to move on. This is pretty much a shot in the dark it would seem to me for a guy that was pronounced to be a big play tall receiver we've been looking for. On the other hand, it looks like Bradley Haynes is definitely out the doghouse that was so difficult to understand last year. Really a mystery why he spent those 7-8 weeks on the sidelines considering others who played. Bradley is one of a handful of guys I'm focusing on to determine just how far this team can go.

makes sense. there is a log-jam of talent at reciever and slot. get him on the field somehow.

I like the move, too. Who knows what he could do at WR, but you're right — it's crowded there.
Hope his athletic ability pans out at LB.

There is no doubt there is a log jam at wideout. From the sound of June's post practice comments he said the kid had put in the work over the summer. Its quite possible as Stallion said, the kid doesnt have very good hands. He posted good numbers at a combine coming out of high school so it sounds like he has some athletic ability.

Plus he did play on D and special teams in HS so, I guess we will see what June can make out of the young man. He definately has nice size and if he can put on some weight, might have a shot at being a contributor on D.

his hands are fine. he was having a difficult time picking up the post-snap reads on 2nd and 3rd defenders in spring practice.

someone needs to tell EJ to lookup Ted Hendricks, and pattern his game like "the mad stork" or "kick him in the head Ted". Hendricks was extremely versatile, he could bring the heat on a pass rush like LT, but he could just as effectively drop back into coverage.

If he can adjust to the zone blitzing scheme, and put some weight on (OLB/DE), he could be an impact player on D. This is an experiment and a reach but I am sure everyone remembers the licks he put on Deyon ' i cant be beat deep' McElroy last year.

Ikaika Ilama Francis at Hawaii was a tall rangy basketball player that never played football. JJ said he would play in the NFL, and he was right. Time will tell. Cant get too excited, yet.

AS i wrote this message i looked up Ted Hendricks on NFL.com for videos, enjoy

E. J. definitely has the frame to add some pounds and be a
OLB or DE.

Post Spring depth shows that the second string LBs only have 3 letters total and only one upperclassman (3/1). Looks like the thinnest position areas on the team (except perhaps OL (4/1), O backfield (0/0), and DL (3/1).)

Anyway, looks like a good move as WR second stringers are 6/2.
