Receivers coach Jeff Reinebold
How’d your guys look today?
“I was pretty happy. [Aldrick Robinson] had a little bit of a twinge in his ham so we pulled him and got him a little bit of extra time off. And Emmanuel [Sanders] started to cramp. We got a problem with this heat and humidity, guys dehydrated. But that gave the young ones a chance to play a little bit and I was really impressed with Cole Loftin and Cole Beasley. They played, I thought, really well. And Terrance [Wilkerson] took a step.”

“Justin [Willis], it was really good to see him do some things. You worry about a guy who’s been hurt, particularly as nasty as his injury was, when all of a sudden the bodies are around him, he’d get a little timid. But he has shown none of that, so I was encouraged.”

“Zach Zimmerman, who’s going to have to give us good depth at outside receiver, did a good job today, caught a couple of balls in traffic and blocked well.”

Did a particular freshman stand out today?
“I don’t know if I want to single out one guy, but I would say that when you look at that group, that Deonte McDade, Darius Johnson and Chayse Joubert all showed that they’re going to be good players here. It’s really fast for them right now, because we’re putting so much information in and now all the defensive guys around them. But again, you can see glimpses of it.”

“Darius made a couple of really nice plays today. He catches the ball extremely well in traffic. He’s tough and he’s put on about 12 pounds since he was a high school senior. He probably is the one right now that’s maybe a little bit further ahead than the rest.”

Wideout Justin Willis
How’d things look today?
“As a team, the attitude looks great. … The defense looks super. They were getting after it in that the new 3-4 scheme. The coaches are doing a great job. On the other side, too, the offense, we looked real sharp today. We’re always going to be a little behind the defense, but as time goes on, we’re going to get more dangerous. So I think we did well today.”

Does the leg bother you at all?
“No. It’s part of my rehab session out here [at practice.] Everyday I just get that much better. I’m developing my calf. I did way better today than I did yesterday. … I’ve felt real well. No pain, so I’m just going.”

Special teams Coach Dennis McKnight
How’s the transition going with your move from offensive line coach?
“I coached special teams in Hawaii for June for four years and coached o-line. I’m just Coach Do-Whatever-He-Needs-Me-To-Do. I just feel privileged that he trusts me enough to do it.”

What did you like about Bryce Lunday’s work today on return coverage drills?
“Bryce Lunday’s got attitude and he’s got effort. Those are the two most important things. He’s just going to be a great special teams player because he wants to.”

Defensive end Margus Hunt, who just made the move from track and field to football
How are you handling the practices?
“The heat doesn’t bother me so much. I thought it was going to bother me, but you’re working out all the time, you keep your body moving and you sweat a lot.”

Ever think you’d be playing football?
"No. I didn’t know much about football five years ago. … It was a kind of foreign thing and kind of strange.

What was your reaction when SMU strength and conditioning coach Vic Viloria first suggested you play football?
“I was laughing at him. I thought nothing was going to take me away from track and field.”

Wideout Terrance Wilkerson
How’s work going with the quarterbacks?
“Our work with the quarterbacks is pretty much in sync, [with the] the veterans, that is. We’ve been working with them since last year, so we pretty much got a feel for each other. As far as the rookies go, they’re getting the hang of it. It takes awhile to pick up this offense and really get in sync.”

What's your goal for this year?
“My goal this year is just to be a big-time threat, a big-time playmaker. Like I’ve said before, I feel like this is my year. Right now, I’m just focusing on staying humble and just doing what I have to do.”

“When I have the opportunity to make a big play I have to make it. … I like to have my number called. I just want the coaches and the quarterback to trust me.”
