BREAKOUT OFFENSIVE STAR: SMU QB Bo Levi Mitchell. Mitchell, a sophomore, can be expected to make a big jump in his second season in coach June Jones' pass-happy offense. Mitchell threw for 2,865 yards and 24 TDs - with 23 picks - last season as a true freshman; a 3,500-yard, 30-TD season in 2009 is a reasonable expectation. Obviously, he needs to cut down on the interceptions.

would be nice to have QB stats showing 3:1 TD to INT ratio at the end of the year, but I'd really like to see someone on the defensive side of the ball voted into that all-conference team by the end of the year.

Continually going 3 and out with this offense, or worse, an INT, puts a hell of a lot of pressure on a young, shallow (i.e. roster isn't deep) defense. An improvement in efficiency on offense will make our D look worlds better. Not to mention the fact that I think the D is just plain better this year. Certainly the 3-4 is both a better fit for our personnel and generally a better fit for the pass happy CUSA.

That would be impressive, considering he threw 23 last year and no QB in the last 10 years of JJ's Run-and-Shoot has thrown fewer than 17.

Hopefully he'll bring his INT number down, but more than that, I hope his completion percentage and TDs go up, and that we have a running game that allows for better balance so the defense can't cheat back on Sanders and Robinson so much.

I agree totally. Eventually, when we put up points consistently other teams will be forced to play-catch-up and that leads to turnovers for the D.

BTW. Brennan threw 13, 12, and 17 int's in 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively. He wasn't the starter in all games in 2005. Rolovich in 2001 passed for 34 TDs and 9 Ints in 9 games as a starter.
