Retire #16 & #17?

After seeing Justin Willis' video the other day and now looking at Emmanual Sander's accomplishments to see how many records he'd break in '09, I was amazed by the number of times Justin Willis has carved his name into the record books. Among the superlatives:

#5 Career Attempts
#3 Career Attempts
#5 Career Completions
#4 Season Completions
#5 Career Passing Yardage
#3 Season Passing Yardage
#1, #2, & #3 Single Game Completion Percentage
#2T Consecutive Completions
#1 Career TD Passes (well ahead of Hixon, Romo and Ford)
#1 & #2 Season TD Passes
Freshman and Sophomore TD passing records
#2T Single Game TD Passes

I think the argument could be made that Willis is the most successful SMU QB of all time. In any event, #s 16 & 17 had a hellova run. Looking forward to an outstanding Sr. season.

Successful? He's 2-22 in the last 2 seasons. Is that the SMU standard now? Not even close to being retired.

If you reaelly want to retire JW's number, it will have to be quick. Every SMU QB record will move down the board now that Jones is here. With that said, no conference titles and bowl wins makes this nearly impossible.

I just added GOSFAGO as a foe and he was ignored, priceless.

True dat.

But to be fair, he didn't exactly have many opportunities to throw the ball last year.

It would've been interesting to see how '08 would've unfolded without a freshman QB.

It may be more interesting to watch Bo in year 3 & 4 after being the starter from day one!

NO! SMU has not had a great player deserving of even casual consideration of such an award in 25 years. There is not a player in the last 25 years that is one of the 25 Greatest Players in SMU History-and that's a charitable statement of what I believe to be true-more like Top 35-40. SMU has had 28 different All-Americans-27 of which were before 1985. The only All-American since was a Kicker.

Stallion is right again! Should Jesse Henderson have his number retired since he broke the all-time record in kickoff returns. Stats are deceiving, especially when you compare the different eras. Did Doak Walker break 1000 yards rushing in a season?

If Don's # is retired, somebody ought to tell Sanders.
