Thursday practice report

Postby PonyPride » Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:47 pm

Shot in the dark: Clouds over Dallas were so thick Thursday morning that the lights — actually half of the lights — were on in Ford Stadium when practice opened at 7 a.m. The session opened with punt drills, with WR Emmanuel Sanders, WR Darius Johnson, WR Cole Beasley, WR B.J. Lee and RB Shawnbrey McNeal fielding punts. With the strange lighting, just catching the punts appeared pretty challenging. Total number of punts dropped: zero (there were some that bounced in front of the returners, but they didn't drop any).

Brooks not done: RT J.T. Brooks (knee) was back on the field with the offensive line. He did limited drills, as the team medical staff eases him back in to the practice regimen while he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Go deep: C Blake McJunkin has gotten most of the reps as the team's deep snapper.

Numbers game: Aaron Davis has changed his jersey number from 54 to 55.

Top picks: DBs had a couple of nice interceptions Thursday.
• Keivon Gamble snagged a pass that deflected off the hands of Aldrick Robinson.
• Walk-on Taylor Weaver plucked a pass that Braden Smith lobbed over the middle, and returned it for a score

Catch of the day: WR Zach Zimmerman raced up the left sideline, but as he closed on the ball, FS Chris Banjo shot across the field in his direction. Banjo lunged toward Zimmerman, who calmly reached out, snagged the pass with his left hand and cruised down the sideline.

Pick of the day: Gamble's and Weaver's interceptions were nice, but the best was turned in by redshirt freshman LB Cameron Rogers, who snatched a deflection off B.J. Lee's hands with one hand.
