Johnny's Solution

It is evident that the administration has not committed to being competitive in Division 1 athletics for the past 20 years. It is hard to blame coaching when SMU has more restrictions placed on athletes than most other Division 1 schools. The 0-5 start is really no suprise considering that the players that are beating us could not even get accepted to SMU. Since the administration, i.e., Turner, Copeland, and the Board, do not want to fully commit to athetics, then we should drop to Division II so that we can field a competitive team. It appears that we are headed for a winless season as Johnny predicted several weeks ago. It is not Bennett's fault or his coaching staff, just as it was not Cavan's fault or Rossley's fault. The blame lies with the administration. We could replace Bennett with another coach, but we will still lose. At least, we could win a few games at the Division II level.

The funny thing is that we are going to C-USA despite doing everyting we could possibly do to kill the program. Life is strange.

I'm not sure who won C-USA. Was it TCU?

PK thinks Johnny should stay under his rock for a few more years or get a vice that doesn't affect his brain so badly.

It seems that PK does not agree with Johnny. But how can anyone argue with the fact that SMU has had only 1 winning season since the DP. Many of our losses have been absolute slaughters. We are now in a conference with many of the bottom tier Division 1 football teams and we still cannot win. The administration consistently blows smoke up the asses of the fans every year, but they fail to make concrete changes to improve the situation. PK become part of the solution and not the problem. There are too many of you that resist change. Johnny does not like to see us lose every year. Do you? Join in Johnny's message...make changes to win or drop to Division II.

Dropping down is not a solution. It is merely giving up.

Nacho, I take it you are feeling confident about CUSA right now?

As long as they don't require any wins I think we have a very good chance.

Yea, and if they require no wins, we're a shoe-in.

Johnny seems out of date. The lagging indicator is wins. Policies have been changed and so far the leading indicator, recruiting, has gotten dramatically better. Johnny needs to give this a couple more years before offering such a solution.

It's either Div. 1-A or Division III for SMU. Trinity U. has enjoyed a lot of success at Div. III and they never get a mention in the DMN. I rest my case for staying in Div. 1-A.

Methinks Johnny is just trying to make a point in hopes someone of power reads it. Voluntarily dropping out of 1-A is ridiculous. You werent impressed with the 21,000 for the Utep game, huh? I guarantee you 210 people would not show up for a game if SMU ever moved down.

bubba pony thinks jonny was just having some fun. bubba pony has been an SMU fan since the late 60's and recalls SMU being in the bottom 10
before and after the dealth penalty.

Looks like we are improving. 6 is not bad. A close loss to SJSU could move us to 7 or 8. I can dream can't I?
