.... in the movie, 12 Mighty Orphans, based on the book by Jim Dent. Just reported on Galloway ESPN 103.3.

The story of orphan state schoolers who played for the Texas state championship in '32. Tied Corsicana, I believe. Coach was the great Rusty Russell, who later coached SMU.

Seen this already on channel 13, but I guess it was the documentary TV version.

About the Mason Lodge home in FW, and Rusty Russell was the coach, and future HP, and SMU
coach if I remember right :?: :?:

Movie version should be great :!:

A terrible thought, a movie about SMU football or anyone associated. No matter the era and main subject, I doubt the script writer will avoid having the closing scene fade into some reminder of the the end of football one on the Hilltop.

Having said that, I suspect 12 Mighty Orphans would be a fine subject for a movie although it would be hard to get that thirties detail right.

Got me to thinking: Who'd play -

Hayden Fry?
Dave Smith?
Ron Meyer?
Bobby Collins?
Forrest Gregg?
Tom Rossley?
Mike Cavan?
Phil Bennett?
June Jones?
