Taking a page from the Ohio State University (NCAA lacrosse), the Florida State lacrosse team will play a rivalry game against University of Florida before the Florida State Spring game on April 10th, 2010.

From FSU Head Lacrosse Coach Bill Harkin's blog:
http://www.collegelax.us/news/2009/07/16/chop-talk-random-thoughts/

As I mentioned in my last blog, we needed Coach Bowden’s blessing in order for us to play our game against UF before the spring football game. Well, as Stuart Scott would say, boo-yah!!! Coach was very much in favor of it, and I am sure it will be a spectacular day.

So, it is with much joy that I am announcing that we have been given the go ahead to play our rivalry game against the University of Florida at Doak Campbell Stadium before the FSU spring football game. The tentative schedule for the game is FSU Men’s Lacrosse vs. UF at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 3rd.

With the SMU Lacrosse team already practicing and playing in Ford Stadium in the spring, I wonder how long before Orsini & June Jones give the lacrosse team the go ahead to destroy TCU prior to the spring practice. Would you guys go?

Saw NCAA lacrosse on TV once. It look entertaining. Moreso than soccer at least, considering I don't know the nuances of either of those sports. I might go.

As one who grew up in the Mid-Atlantic and returned there, I do have some appreciation for lacrosse. My high school boasts the #1 women's team in the region (and possibly the nation). However, like baseball, lacrosse will never be a Division 1 Men's sport at SMU for two reasons: (1) Title IX. Again, you'd need 1.5 women's sports to equal a men's lacrosse team. Thus you'd have to add for example women's lacrosse and archery. (2) There are no other Division 1 men's lacrosse teams within 900 miles of Dallas. Its fun to watch a Maryland - John's Hopkins lacrosse game.

The worst lacrosse game I have ever seen is better than most team sports. Speed, agility, contact, action and fast paced scoring.

Despite the fact that no new Varsity Men's Sports will ever be introduced or reintroduced, i.e. baseball, Track & Field and Cross Country, which are sorely missed, this Club Sport is the hottest new sport in college. Most universities and colleges, by necessity, are building strong programs that compete regionally and nationally.

Playing game at Ford Stadium is a great idea and venue to showcase both the Men and Women teams.

SMU Lacrosse is a club sport moving towards a virtual varsity status. Because they realize lacrosse will never be an NCAA sport, the Mens Collegiate Lacrosse Association has stepped in. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country, but the NCAA has rules in place to make it extremely difficult for the sports expansion. The MCLA is a separate governing body that allows competition for these collegiate club teams. Boasting 200+ teams in the league, the top 20 or so teams are more virtual varsity teams. They have recruiting budgets, full time head coaches, and even compete against D1 teams. MCLA BYU beat NCAA Air Force last spring. The athletic department has been extremely supportive of the lacrosse programs, mens and womens, and it would be great to have the opportunity to play before the spring practice.
