First things first, we haven't received word on whether the NCAA has ruled on running back Shawnbrey McNeal's hardship waiver. We'll find out more when we get to chat with coach June Jones at practice tonight, which runs from 7-9 p.m.
But SMU does report that Sellout 2009 has reached its goal of selling 32,000-plus tickets for Saturday's season-opener with Stephen F. Austin at Ford Stadium.
It remains to be seen whether SMU will break the current attendance record of 34,689, or how many of these sold tickets result in butts in the seats.
SMU used a business plan that relied on 19 supporters in the Dallas business community committing to buy 1,000 tickets each. They then sold tickets and distributed others to youth groups and non-profits.
For example, a couple thousand Dallas ISD students are expected to attend Saturday.
