SMU and running back Shawnbrey McNeal will now find out Friday morning if his hardship waiver is approved by the NCAA, allowing him to play this fall. The Madison product transferred from Miami partially because his mother is ill.

The NCAA discussed the issue today but wanted to address it again Friday. SMU coach June Jones said the committee is making an effort to reach a decision before Saturday's Stephen F. Austin game, albeit with one day to go.

"They said it's a sensitive issue and they want to make sure they make the right decision," Jones said Thursday night after practice at Ford Stadium.

Get over it people. What is the difference between learning it Friday around noon than Thursday afternoon. He's been working out with the team as if he's going to play, but the team has likely been preparing to play with him or without him. Friday is just a walkthrough day anyway. He has the SFA gameplan.

Cool your heals. Geeeez!!

I want him on the field as much as anybody but we also know that these things can go either way. Regardless, we're going to have to live with the decision.

It's not the end of the world if he's got to sit out this year. We'll be very glad in 2011 if that happens.

The longer it takes the jury to decide the better chance we have. Its better than a quick decision of "no".

it should be a cut and dry decision. i just dont see the 'no' argument. why wouldn't he be aloud to play?

His mom was in ICU last week and he has a kid here....I wonder how that compares to the Arkansas guy that got the waiver. I'm really confused why this would take more than two seconds to grant a waiver.

I'm not irritated that the decision is delayed by one day so much that I can't believe that it is really that hard for them to decide. It's not like it's a civil lawsuit that requires pouring over law books, it's eligibility for a single player for a college sport (aka "a kid's game"). Flip a friggin' coin, for God's sake!

For some reason I picture 6 guys that have speech, mannerisms, and appearance of the English teacher in Ferris Bueller mulling this over.

"in...........what......................wayyyyyyyy.........."

They probably had some committee members who wanted to get to happy hour and see the games tonight.

Or they couldn't get a hold of Deloss Dodds to consult him first...
