Questions

Tonight, I had the privilege of bringing my bride to the game (7 months pregnant) and her parents. First football game in person for my 76 year old mother-in law, who spent the first 36 years of her life in another country. She enjoyed the game, but I did not.

Actual quotes from mother in law.

"SMU is weak."

"Why are your players so much smaller than the other team's players?"

"When you have the ball, you have to run different plays so that the other team doesn't know what you are doing."

I am not going to present any questions about the team, but I am going to question everything that encircles the game. For the record, I've been a season ticket holder for the past five years, I have 4 seats, I give to the Mustang Club.

--Why is it so hard to get the PA system to work? Early in the game there was too much reverb, later in the game, you couldn't hear anything that was said.

--Why is it so hard for the announcer to not talk over the ads?

--Why do we have so many ads that are displayed and announced? I appreciate the folks who spend their money on SMU, but seriously, do we have to have so many ads?

--Why do we announce a sellout, I believe the term was "record breaking" by the PA announcer tonight, when anyone looking around could see a ton of empty seats. Again, I sincerely appreciate those folks who worked hard and those who purchased the tickets, but there was an air of dishonesty to the announcement.

--Why is it so difficult to have score updates flashed on the screen? At least give us top 25 scores every now and then.

--Why can't we have stats displayed during the game? I saw stats once, I believe during the 4th quarter, and the typeface used was very small and that goofy shadow applied to it. I'm young with good eyesight.

--Why can't we have coordinated video/music/presentations? The tribute to the former bball team and football team was an embarrassment tonight. They represented SMU well, and that's the best we can do for them?

I've been to a lot of games in other conferences, including the SEC and Big 10. They can do it. Why, year after year, is it so seemingly impossible for us? I can't believe that the bigwig grads from SMU who run the giants of industry that they do will allow their names, time, energy, and money to be associated with this horrible stadium atmosphere.

On a positive note, congratulations to the team on the victory. I appreciate you all not giving up and continuing to fight 'till the bitter end.

Are you going to marry your bride before your child is born?

Our in game presentation is awful. PA system is terrible. In the 2nd half, there was this humming sound that was driving me crazy. I honestly thought that it was a dog whistle type sound, and was amazed we didn't hear every dog in University Park barking their head off. And not that I cared to hear the sideline stuff they were putting on there, but every time they tried it, they cut them off mid-sentence.

And please, for the love of GOD, stop playing Journey. It only brings up a bad, failed, miserable memory from the in-game experience last year.

That's so 20th century....For the record we are married, and happily so, but I don't know how much stress the marriage can take after games like this.

Re: the PA announcer ... at least last year's carnival barker wasn't there. Glitches galore, but that, at least, was a major improvement.

How about the classical music that was continuously playing for what seemed liked 30 miutes or more. I felt like we were at the Myerson.

I really wish the PA guy would look at a roster, say, a day in advance? Is that too much to ask? I could care less if he screws up the other team's names. It's inexcusable not to know our roster and how to prounounce them...even Szymanski.

And did he really say our "All Quit. No Grit" team at the end? Classic.
