Ugly win, according to dmn. Ugly WIN?

I got news for you, Kate. There is no such thing as an ugly SMU win. What a mind-numbingly stupid headline in Sunday's SPORTSDAY 2. Can we maybe let the women report on women's sports or utilize their skills in the food section or something. Good grief.

ANY SMU WIN IS A THING OF BEAUTY. Sure we would have like to have seen a little more crispness offensively, no denying it. But I saw 5 interceptions from a suddenly "big-play" defense, I saw an electrifying 80 yard punt return for six and I saw an SMU running back explode, the likes of which we haven't seen around here since Reggie Dupard. If this McNeal kid doesn't get 25 touches a game this year than June needs his head examined.

This SMU game had a much different feel than those of recent history. Personally, I really never had any doubt we would win the game because we are so loaded with offensive weapons in an already explosive scheme. When this thing gets on track, watch out!

UT 59 LA Monroe 20 is ugly. An SMU opening win is beautiful.

Is this satire, or are you actually insane?

Yes, couch em. 20 years of losing has probably caused some insanity and some loss of perspective. And that was a rare sober post. Just wait till I pound about 8 beers and start typing. That's when it really gets insane.

Even after 22 years, this was UGLY.
Glad we have a W but this was a gift wrapped in yesterdays funnies.

I love SMU fans and in fact, glad to see we are not all accepting of this ugly win. We want better for our program and we NEED better for our program.

Go beat UAB and show great improvement.

any way you spin it...this was winning ugly. Like Coach Jones said in his post game, I'm not convinced some SMU teams in the recent past would have responded well to being 2 scores down late in the game.

how 'bout we win ugly at either UAB or WSU and start the season 2-2?

that would give me cause for optimism for the 2009 season

Yeah, BABY!! You go, brother.
(But she didn't write the headline. Some Colt McCoy-man-crush editor did. To those guys, Sam Bradford in a sling is a thing of beauty.) :D

There is no such thing as an ugly SMU win until we are bowl regulars.

Women reporting on sports....sigh

Glenn,

I agree with you on 2 things and that is McNeal is the best RB we have have since Reggie Dupard (Pony EcpressII). And that if he does not touch the ball 25 times a game something is wrong.

Ugly win indeed. Could have easily been an ugly loss...against a D1-AA team. We will be lucky to get a D1-A (FBS for MM65) win this season at the rate we played on Saturday. I was hoping for a better display of improvement. Oh well. Hopefully we can shake this off and get it in gear going forward.

Indeed an ugly win. Good headline. SMU fans should expect more than eeking out a win over a middling FCS team at home. UT winning by 39 is ugly? They were vanilla and played a ton of backups. How long did BLM play? I know the answer. Good thing Shawnbrey McNeal came on in Q4. There's a reason for hopefulness.

Isn't that why u schedule a team like SFA?
If u play poorly you still have a chance to win.
Although it felt like a scrimmage, the W counts & its alot more fun going to UAB 1-0 instead of 0-1.

which brings us to the whole scheduling issue. We should be able to schedule home/home series with programs like La Tech and Ark State with that same $200k guarantee for the visitor and employ the same "operation sellout" strategy...might actually see a few more butts in seats for those opponents.
