SMU and TCU should stay together for the ultimate contribution to any TV package. Copeland and Hyman have studied the facts ....and any increase in $$$$ (minimal, at best) from MWC would evaporate quickly in travel costs associated with such move. And, by what I hear, Coach Patterson has told Hyman he does NOT want the MWC...period.

don't know about Pattersons feeling or how much his opinion counts. But, I have said that SMU ought to make sure the lines of communication are open with the MWC in case we could make ourselves a package deal, as unlikely as it may seem given all the western candidates for MWC.

Well, considering the football success TCU has had in recent years (gawd, that really hurts to write that), Patterson undoubtedly will get whatever arrangement best suits the football team.
However, re: communication .... would it be better to maintain communication with MWC officials to try to position ourselves with TCU as a package deal -- thereby incurring some of the same travel expenses we've had to deal with in the WAC -- or would it be better to negotiate with TCU officials to try to convince them of the financial benefits of staying in a closer (geographical) conference (CUSA) .... that we obviously want to join?
I'd say the latter. When looking at the bottom line, SMU would be better off campaigning to join TCU in CUSA, rather than to latch on with TCU to join the MWC.
