the attendance was great for the boys and at times the crowd would get loud but this is college football everyone needs to be standing for a majority of the game. there was one section down by the score board that was loud the whole time.

Hard for people to get excited when they are in shock and disgusted watching "the only DI-A football team in Dallas" trailing to a very average DI-AA team.

Looks like EVERYONE came out flat Saturday except the secondary, the kicker, and a couple others.

That students leave at halftime still baffles me. I was in school in the early 1990s, when we often were on the south end of a very lopsided score, and it never occurred to me to leave early. Still doesn't, and never will.

It is truly pathetic how many students leave at halftime every game. That attitude is why I never saw any girls at SMU as decent "wife" material.

They'll stick around until they get bored, and then it's off to something better.

Was in class earlier...professor asked for everyone who went to the football game to raise their hands. About 30 people raised their hands. He then said, "Who stayed until the end?"

Two people raised their hands. I was one of them.

I went to the game excited about a potential full house and left feeling like we just wasted a great crowd (size wise). I think it's the result of everything we've been complaining about in other threads - the offense was abysmal, which lead to zero flow, so the faithful SMU fans were nervous about the "here we go again" game and the other fans had very little reason to get into the game; and on top of that the game presentation did nothing to assist fans in getting into it.

I don't recall any stadium-wide "SMU" chants or "Defense" chants until they broke that awful sounding graphic on the scoreboard with about 30 secs left in the game.

As for the students, that's not going to change until we're winning against good competition. If it's the chicken or the egg argument, at SMU the winning definitely comes before the student support.

Our "cheer"leaders subscribe to the high school model. Everbody gets to be one and you stick to the script. No imagination here, folks. The 24+ bowheads is a farce. We need to right the team first and then work on these screwballs.

As I understand it (or at least according to the folks I have interviewed so far) the students leaving at half time was even an issue during the Pony Express era. I can't really corroborate, I was there but as a little kid I didn't care about anything but the game.

I mean, what, I was born in '78? So I wouldn't have been aware of what a student section was, frankly.
