UVA loses to WILLIAM AND MARY? At home? By 2 scores? Yikes
And I know no one expects much from Duke but losing to Richmond?
Our game was very ugly - but at least we won when we were supposed to. Now that we've matched our win total for last year and the year before, maybe we can double it - next week?

Isn't William & Mary in the Top 10 too.
ANSWER: William & Mary was 5th in Sagarin ratings and other teams that almost pulled upsets like Appy St. and Northern Iowa were 3rd and 4th respectively.

Give me a break - us almost losing but coming back to win is not nearly as bad as an ACC team LOSING to william and mary

My dad (a UVA alum) was at that game with my brother, who is a W&M alum. Suffice it to say they went home in separate cars. I believe this is W&M coach Layc0ck's second win over UVA? Last one was 1986. Lot of people don't know that he turned down the SMU job before Copeland hired Cavan

As William and Mary is my other alma mater (I got my law degree there), I was tickled to see the Wahoos get beat by the Tribe. Groh is on the hot seat (although the man can recruit). I think losing Golden and some of his other assistants to the NFL has slowly hurt the program. Several little known William and Mary facts: The Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, played football at William & Mary. Lou Holtz coached at William and Mary. John Stewart and Glenn Close went to William and Mary. And Steeley Dan hated William and Mary. W&M is another school where the ABC Board got heavy handed. When I started there, they allowed people to roll kegs into the stadium. By the time I graduated, we had to smuggle in flasks because some UVA alum saw the kegs and had the timerity to ask why they couldn't do that at UVA.

Why did Steeley Dan hate W&M?

Because William & Mary won't do.

From wm.edu:
Rumor: Members of the group Steely Dan attended the College, but left in disgust and recorded the song "My Old School" (lyrics: "Oh, no, William and Mary won't do ...").
Status: False.
The first time you heard jazz-rock legends Steely Dan sing your alma mater's name in their 1974 tune "My Old School," you felt a surge of pride -- hey, U.Va. doesn't have any popular songs written about it. And between the W&M shout-out and the apparent reference to Annandale, a Northern Virginia suburb, it's easy to assume there's a connection between Steely Dan and Our Old School.
Unfortunately, the song has no more to do with William and Mary than William Hung. An early-1980s Flat Hat investigation reportedly found that Steely Dan writers Walter Becker and Donald Fagen selected the College's name simply because it fit the cadence of the song ("Guadalajara" fits the same space in a later chorus), and the Annandale in question is in New York. Even so, the classic "William and Mary won't do" line has been used in roughly half a billion Flat Hat headlines, kiosk flyers and dorm-door signs.

Yeah, I'd heard that they did not leave W&M in disgust and that it fit the cadence of the song. But there it was in the song "My Old School". Whoa no, Willam and Mary won't do.

TCU will face an "angry" Virginia team...if they are any good at all (Virginia, that is), the frogs are in for a very tough opener.

TCU kills them, 55-10.

I am a big believer that you make your own luck, but TCU over the year has had it in spades. Of course, they also take advantage of their opportunities, too. And that is more than I can say for SMU over the years.

A common mistake, but it was Annandale-on-the-Hudson, home of Bard College when Becker and Fagin got together. Apparently one of them was disappointed because a drug bust sent a girlfriend off with the working girls in the county jail.
