Evan Huahula Quits

Armen is out of pocket but wanted me to pass along the following:

We can confirm that sophomore defensive tackle Evan Huahulu has left the program. The California native was listed at third on the depth chart and did not play during Saturday's home opener against SFA.

In our opinion, Huahulu was not an individual that was looking to compete for depth time any time soon. He had an opportunity to take the backup spot over the fall and it did not happen.

Really disappointing, if true. I wish he would reconsider.

SMU Football. All Grit. No Quit. Unless you aren't satisfied with your place on the depth chart - then a good amount of quit.

Given the amout ProudMama posts on here I wouldn't think this is true, but I checked ponystampede for a second confirmation and they had confimation up yesterday. Sad.

You can never have too many people with big wild hair on your football team.

He must have thought that his depth chart position was boxed in and it would be difficult if not impossible to move up. Sorry, he left, but best of luck to him where ever he lands.

WOW, He did play last Saturday on some Special teams.
His ability to get down to playing weight effected his speed and I think ( no real knowledge ) JJ wants fast linemen.

I hope that he can get his education and be happy. Best to him and welcome back if he had a weak moument and wants to focus and come back.

Peace be with you brother.

Best of luck to him. Kind of worrisome though when we lose 2 players (Evan and Willis) just because they don't like their spot on the depth chart. He's only a sophomore. Kind of early in the season to jump ship. Too bad

If I was counseling these kids, I would tell them that they already put in the work over the Spring and Summer and regardless of how much you play, you will still reap the rewards of your hard work by being with your teammates. What is three to four more months?
