Sometimes, you need a play to start turning it

That's what we got from Taylor Reed on the two-point attempt. That's what you need if you're going to start moving your program from afterthought to decent to contender.

Reed's play is something that we have not been getting in recent years:
1. Beasley drops the TD pass against Tulsa.
2. We can't get a stop against Houston, especially that 3rd and 19 a couple of years ago.
3. We can't score from first and goal at the one against Rice twice in 2006.
4. The blown chances to win at Memphis in 2007.

Things like that. The contending programs come up with those plays. Reed's play is one of those but it will only last for that game. But it won't mean anything if we lay an egg at Washington State. However, it can serve as a starting point.

What I hope this does is create an atmosphere where the kids know they can do something, make a play, trust each other more and maintain a level of preparation and focus during the practice week, including the classroom.

We all knew that 28-7 was too good to be true and that UAB would come back. Of course, we helped them with the turnovers. Still, these are games we would usually blow.

The composure of the team was tested and instead trying to fight through OT, we made a play and came back home with a W.

It's up to them to keep it going and fight off potential complacency.

Congratulations to the alma mater.
