What Washington State is....

...is Baylor circa 2003-2005.

Baylor sucked. Baylor was the basement of the Big XII. Baylor was a joke. Baylor played one good game against a conference opponent a year. A lot of people assumed we could play Baylor and win easily.

Baylor still beat us twice in close games.

"Great kid. Don't get coc ky."

And PITT is 2-0 with Navy coming to play them this week!

Should be a good indication of both PB's defense and Navy's ability!

Disagree. This Wazzu team is worse. This Wazzu team has roughly the amount of talent of the teams we fielded in 1989, 1990, and 1991. This Wazzu team, outside of RB Montgomery, has looked like a 1-AA team so far this year.

That being said, it's not unheard of for a team to lose games they should win. We HAVE to stop WSU's running game. We HAVE to force turnovers. We HAVE to limit our turnovers. We CANNOT have multiple three-and-outs in a row.

Man Dooby you are starting to scare me. That's the second time we are thinking alike recently-looks like we were right on UTEP being overrated. I had the exact same thought last Nite. That's what they were last year for sure on offense but they did get about 400 yards Total Offense last week and had a runner go for about 130. But as far as total ineptitude at QB they were in the Tate Wallis range last year. It sounds like their holes this year are even more pronounced on defense. That Baylor team had some defensive players that are probably better than WSU. I used to check it last year. WSU had like 6-7 teams score more than 45 points-4 teams score more than 58 something ridiculous like that.

Washington State is bad, but they are BCS bad. We cannot assume that they are worse than us. We were 1-11 last year against the likes of Rice, Memphis, UTEP, UCF, and they were 1-11 against Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, UCLA, Stanford and they beat Washington. If we had that schedule last year we would have had the same kind of bad defeats they had. So, let's not get lulled into thinking this is going to be a cakewalk. This is going to be a war and we need to go in ready to fight all the way to the end of the game. And if we win, we can then be happy while we prepare for TCU.

Like Coach Jones said in the luncheon yesterday, "We are not good enough to just show and win, we are not at that point." He said that every game will be a dogfight.

A guy's TV quits just before the Washington State football game. He goes to a neighbor's house to ask if he can watch the game there and sees several other men there. The neighbor says, "Sure, but why did you bring your dog?" The guy says, "We're both big fans. The dog watches and gets excited especially about long runs."

The men sit down, the dog lays on the floor, Washington State receives the kickoff, make a big run and big pass, but can go no farther. They kick a field goal. The dog gets up, walks around on his hind feet, and gives each of the guys a high-five. The guys are amazed. "That's the coolest thing I have ever seen a dog do," says one of them who has just moved to Washington. "What does he do when Washington State scores a touchdown?"
"I don't know," replies the dogs owner, "I've only had him for two years."

To say nothing of losing games they are supposed to lose.

No expectations people. Allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised if the outcome is a win. Saturday evening was quite pleasant.

This game is about maturity. This game is about growth and self control.
This game is about staying focused.

We are not good enough... Nobody is good enough to lose focus.
Oklahoma againsy TCU
TCU against SMU
OK State against Houston
ETC.
ETC.
We have the talent and can win.

But will we choose to do what it takes to win?

Go Mustangs

Unlike the Zen master jtstang, I have many expectations for this week.

I expect SMU to see a running game they have not seen this year. I expect WSU to use that running game to set up multiple high risks high reward (trick) plays. I expect WSU to take chances on 4th down.

I expect WSU to minimize SMU's best defensive accomplishment (interceptions) by work in play action to short and intermediate routes.

I expect WSU to utilize multiple line stunts and blitzes to confuse a young SMU line.

I expect WSU to use a variety of coverages and disguise those coverages more than BLM has seen this year.

I expect WSU to limit our opportunities on special teams (kick away from certain returners). I expect WSU to take chances on special teams.

I expect WSU to utilize every asset to win this game and to use these assets to minimize our strengths and limit our opportunities. And to try and out coach Jones.

I expect a real hard played game and that we have to show marked improvement over our previous efforts to win.
