SOME FANS FELT that Kevin Lopina had emerged as the top quarterback through his play the first two weeks. He's completed 28 of 42 passes for 313 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
"Let's just say there's some things out there on the field that people don't see from the naked eye," Wulff said.

We don't know what is going on. The guy may be having some real issues reading defenses. Not all changed plays at the line are passes. Also, we don't know what the guy’s attitude is in the huddle. His teammates may not be able to stand him. We just don't know but there are a wide variety of reasons other than pass completions and TDs thrown that could play into this decision.
And this is a desperate WSU team. The change could be a folly that only helps us or present a challenge to our D. Either way, we have to play more consistent on offense. More points and consistency form the O puts a ton of pressure on a WSU QB regardless of which one is in there.

Jones said something similar after last year's opener at Rice. He saw things that maybe the rest of us didn't see. And he probably did. (Ya' think?)

And I say we lay off Bennett. He busted his @rse here and nearly broke through in '06.

Hey, I appreciate the effort that Bennett put in here.

If I remember right, JJ's comment was that Bo Levi would still be successful, despite losing to Rice, because there were some things he does that don't show up on the stat sheet.

Lopina's stats were/are awfully good.

Well said... this game, much like the season, rest's squarely on the shoulders of our offense. We will go only as far as they can take us. Which also means the young men up front have to continue to stay healthy and block like they are all 6'5" 300++!!

Lay off Bennett for gosh sakes. He IS a great defensive coordinator, he just not a very good head coach. I just don't think he can manage a game as a head man.

The last very good head coach at SMU was Ron Meyer.

Phil Bennett was a bad coach and did not help this team defensively while he was here. His first three years at SMU were probably the worst three year stretch of SMU football post-DP.

Add to that the fact that he basically threw the entire university under the bus as he was walking out the door.

And people still defend the guy. Someday, people are going to figure out that he was completely full of it.

You are better off defending hte guy that sold you the Edsel.

Come to think of it, that WAS Phil Bennett.

I don't know if Phil Bennett was a bad guy. He was a lousy head coach and his defensive credentials are suspect with me. I'll never forget the first game he coached at SMU. With much of the best defense in WAC the year before returning, a Navy team that had not won a game the year before ran all over us.
