With the disappointment in the loss I don't think enough attention has been paid to the greatness of Emanuel Sanders. Breaks Jerry Levias' game reception record with 18 receptions as well as the the All-Time yardage record. Emanuel Sanders is probably the only post DP player I consider to be among the greats in SMU Football History. Well him and Morestead. Just an outstanding player. I assume he's leading the Nation in receptions now.

Yes you play the game like a true champ, well done.

Weren't you the one hacking on me earlier this fall when I suggested (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) that Sanders should have his jersey retired? ...How he didn't deserve the accolade because he played on losing teams? I can bump that back up to the front page if you need a reminder.

Stallion wrote:NO! SMU has not had a great player deserving of even casual consideration of such an award in 25 years. There is not a player in the last 25 years that is one of the 25 Greatest Players in SMU History-and that's a charitable statement of what I believe to be true-more like Top 35-40. SMU has had 28 different All-Americans-27 of which were before 1985. The only All-American since was a Kicker.
Does anyone think Sanders has cracked the SMU Top 35 of All Time list yet?

Probably because I don't think his Jersey should be retired. I think he is one of the Top 25 or Top 40 players in SMU History. You only retire Jerseies for Heisman Trophy candidates, 3 Time All-Americans or players who lead teams to historic glory. Sanders has yet to win First Team All-CUSA. There are some pretty outstanding players at SMU whose Jersies haven't been retired. You lack historical perspective when you discount the great players in SMU History who were All-Americans and won multiple All-SWC honors.

Yeah, ES was rolling yesterday. It's a shame that we lost the game, but he gave it all he had like he does week in and week out. He's truly greatness.
I also agree with Stallion on the jersey thing.

It is too bad the result has taken all the attention from his record setting day. He should have been basking in glory today.

Good call on this thread. Emmanuel Sanders is undeniably an all-time great.
I look forward to seeing him rewrite the record book.
