Lets talk about something positive...

…The Defense. :D

Now Im not gonna go out on a ledge and say they are all-world, but I have really liked what I have seen and heard from the unit this year as a whole.

D-Line: Vast improvement over last year. I was impressed with our ability to contain the UAB QB who likes to run a little bit, as well as the rushing attack of Washington State last week. While we don’t have a ton of sacks, we are creating some pressure on the quarterback which has been creating turnovers in the secondary. Taylor Thompson has continued to improve every game and has made some nice plays between the blocked field goal, a couple of sacks and more than a few QB pressures. Frazier has been doing a solid job on the other side as well.

Linebackers: Chase Kennemer has been outstanding. He is all over the field and has been creating pressure, notching a lot of tackles and in on some turnovers. I like what I have seen from the freshmen as far as making plays; they are doing a nice job.

Secondary: They are much improved over last year, and while I think some of it has to do with knowing the system, I think the pressure up front is really helping these guys. The starting corners have been doing a nice job in coverage for the most part as has Moore and Mojica. I think these guys have some room for improvement since they have given up some chunks of yards, but at the same time they have come up with a lot of INTs.

Thoughts?

I agree with you. Then again, that's all the more disappointing, because I believe the consensus was that our biggest area of concern-outside of possibly the O-Line-was the defense.

Now, our defense is a strength, and O-line has held it's own...yet we still found a way to lose a game.

Long way to go.

I think the fact that our defense has shown so much improvement gives us some hope in games we think would be automatic losses.

That being said, in order to turn those into Wins, the offense is going to have to cut down the turnovers and play a complete game.

Well at least we have narrowed it down to one offensive player.

Anyone that has been to an away game or had a beer on the vard with me knows how I feel about our QB. And yes he deserves to have his A—reamed a little bit lol. However; if we had another QB qualified and capable of playing better than BLM on our team I would be the first to make noise. But guess what we don’t SO I JUST GO WITH THE FLOW.

I suppose if you watched 12 hours of practice on 7 different occasions this summer you may agree with me.

I wish I were close enough to Dallas to watch their practices. Well, maybe next year I will return to the DFW area.

GO PONIES!!!

Kennemer has been outstanding; Taylor Reed has been a real surprise

Really enjoyed the turnaround the D has made. Night and day. It gives me real hope for the future.

Being 1-0 in conference is pretty cool.
Isn't it?
Having a legit rb is a beautiful thing.
Need 2 use him more.
Looks like improved d.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still pissed about
Saturday but I've seen ALOT worse round here

Without those two picks going for touchdowns, the pick in OT doesn't happen and we are all happy campers. It doesn't take too many mistakes to ruin a perfectly wonderful day.

If Bo doesnt throw that 3rd pick with a few mins to go in the 4th quarter, we kick a field goal and put the game away. THAT is even more depressing to me.

better play from our front 7 is making the secondary look better; something that was a real weakness last year. I'm anxious to see how this defense will compete against more talented teams. We still have very little depth

Agreed. We need more depth, and until we have it, we need to stay healthy, but until then, the front seven goes a long way toward making the secondary far more effective. Here's hoping it continues.

We seem to be Top 25 in a lot of major categories, which gives me a lot of reason for hope. However, as we all know we are ranked #1 in Thrown interceptions due to "You-Know-Who" or "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" (Harry Potter style)

SMU Football National Rankings:

BLM: #2 Total Passing Yards
Touchdown Passes: #12 in the country
Emmanuel Sanders: #3 Receiving Yards
McNeal: #19 Rushing Yards
Team Interceptions: #1 in the country (11)
Team First Downs: #17 in the country
