Honest Opinions...

I haven't been to any practices, nor did I get to see any of these guys play in HS...

But...Is Padron the better prospect than BLM? I would love an honest opinion from someone who is better informed than I...

Can someone do a comparison for me?

I believe Padron is a little better prospect. Of course the kid who is scheduled to come in next year(Kaiser) is a better prospect than both of em.

I think it would be neat-o if we had a few QBs in the program for at least 2-3 years before we expected them to save the program and serve as Poster-boy for the SMU media campaign. Just from what I know about them and what I've seen written about them I think both Kaiser and Padron should be considered as longer term projects who will need some seasoning and development to reach their potential. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It is just plain stupid how every SMU coach for the last 15 years has tried one freshman after another hoping for a miracle. Upperclass QBs win football games and most likely the best ones redshirt their freshman year. Iwould rather go with an experienced Mitchell than have to suffer through the learning curve of another Freshman phenom-(who really isn't a phenom). If and when we sign Super-Star Stud QB I might change my mind but I have not seen SMU sign that caliber kid in 25 years.

Padron definately needs to add weight to his frame, as most freshman probably do. Kaiser is supposed to be a pretty polished passer.

I think both of these guys are going to sit and wait behind Bo. I just hope Bo cuts down on the turnovers so we dont have to keep talking about who is going to be the NEXT qb.

I have'nt seen him play except on video but if he is so polished why is he hitting on less than 44% of his passes after 4 games? Could be poor receivers-but let me warn you one thing I do know is that his high school throws the ball less than Bo Levi's high school-he has about 7 completions a game. I highly doubt that a kid running a running offense should be considered a polished QB for a Run and Shoot team. Redshirt him. At least Padron ran a similiar offense-albeit for about 5-6 games in his high school career. Redshirt him too.

I doubt and hope neither of them have to see the field. I hope Bo's play improves. Good article on rivals concerning QB play though...

I agree....redshirt both of them. Let them have a few years of learning the system before being asked to lead a college team. Texas Tech does a good job of this....they get qbs in their system and when the starter graduates then a guy steps in with a few years of experience of learning the system. Will JJ be around that long though? He only has a 5 year deal and may not be around long enough to see the qbs develop that he recruits.

Redshirt both. Bo remains starter, as he should. He's our best choice.

Can we get a JUCO transfer in here...I know JJ wanted the guy who eventually ended up at UCLA...Why can't we get one in here?

While the sample size is small, Padron did at least show the ability to run the spread well at SLC. Sure, homeboy needs to eat some biscuits and needs a year of figuring out the playbook, but as far as matching the player to the position I think he could be the answer. Again, there are a lot of "ifs" in there but at least the signs point in the right direction.

The only real alternative to Bo next year is the New Mexico transfer (can't remember his name) and I don't know what his skill level is. I do know unlike Padron and Kaiser (or some yet to emerge juco) he is the only one on the roster to have D1 experience and has passed a lot. I really hope and actually believe that Bo continues to improve and our young guys get to season before they are needed.

he was the second string QB at NMSU who got some work because of an injury to the starter. He is not a seasoned QB either. Completed 20 of 34 passes for 246 yards as a sophomore... Started for NMSU at Louisiana Tech as a freshman, completing 29 of 40 passes for 319 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions...

I don't think he will fit into our style of offense.
