How long?

Did it take for JJ to turn Hawaii around? Don't we have much better facilities, academics, location, etc. than them? What gives?

First year. However, he had much better and more experienced athletes in his first year at UH plus he had a full season to recruit. Bennett left the cupboard pretty bare. June inherited a team full of freshmen and sophomores with little discipline and without a winning attitude.

It will take longer at SMU than at UH, but, with the facilities, the academics and the local talent, it will happen.

My opinion is:

Year 2009, we possibly go bowling.

Year 2010 a sure bowl or a better bowl than 2009.

Year 2011 we are playing for conference championship.

Year 2012 we fill Ford for every home game, we are in the top 10 and the Big XII is looking at SMU as an expansion or Baylor replacement. :-)
OK that is a pipe dream.

Of course, let's not forget we were 6-6 in '06.

If we were 6 - 6 in 06, under the rules of numerology we could be 9 - 9 in 09?

:D of course.

(And the "empty cupboard" included Emmanuel, Aldrick and others. Let's not get carried away.)

They had a dramatic turn around the first year with a sr. quarterback, but the second year UH dropped to 3-9 because they had to start a freshman. They got back on track the following year.

We had a starter with 2 years experience and 2 years to go when JJ took over!

The cupboard had a few crumbs, but 10 out of 100 players is pretty scarce.

he didn't fit the "system". He probably would have strayed from the pocket once in a while when under duress and avoided throwing pick 6 interceptions. Honestly, with the improved pass protection that we all see this year, I really would have liked to see what JW could have done with that in his senior year. Rivals the what-ifs of what ole Shan the Man would have done in his career if not cut short.

We didn't have a starter with two years of experience in the Run and Shoot. It's time to let that decision go. Either that, or maybe we should re-visit whether Craig James really should have been the featured RB for the Pony Express?

I would agree with this if your 09 prediction was for 2010. 2010 was for 2011 and so on and so forth
