John Jenkins Still a [deleted]

Jenkins believes his then-unconventional offense was key in bringing national attention to the school.

"Back in the late '80s, it was a very run-oriented dominance particularly in the Southwest," Jenkins said. "I believed just the opposite and certainly we proved to everybody that you could win and win very big and win on a national level throwing the football. The players believed in what I believed in and that's what made it work."

It worked so well that some grumbled Jenkins and his Cougars would unnecessarily run up the score against weaker opponents. In 1989, Houston beat a just-back-from-the-NCAA-death-penalty SMU team 95-21.

Twenty years later, Jenkins insists he wouldn't change a thing.

"I never had one coach approach me face to face and tell me after a game, 'Hey man, I wished you would have pulled off or you ran up the score on me,"' he said. "Yet I would hear this from media members. I guess if a coach had ever told me that face to face I would have said, 'Hey, bring a better team next time.' It's as simple as that."

he did have one coach however kick his [deleted] when those freshman became Seniors which partly lead to him losing his job-never to be heard from again. Jenkins is 10 times worse than Mike Leach-Jenkins is a despicable human being. No comparison. One was throwing into the endzone against Freshman walkon DBs to hit 100-another Leach is just trying to make sure Tech beats the Line.

And I did love the following week after 95-21 when Houston went to Kyle Field and Aaron Wallace knocked the [deleted] out of Andre Ware, he knocked Ware's helmet off. Wallace held the helmet in front of those A&M fans who went nuts.

A&M won, 17-12 or something like that. One of the few times I pulled for A&M.

I thought Jack Pardee was the coach at cougar high when they ran up the score. Someday maybe we will be able to return the favor.

GO PONIES!!!

Thought Jenk was an assistant on that '89 coug team. Ran his famous porn pre-game pick-me-up as a head coach.

Pardee was the head coach. Jenkins was the offensive coordinator who was still calling for the ball to be fired downfield when UH was up by 60 or 70 points.

I used to like Pardee, but after that game, I hated him.

But he'll never be as big a [deleted] as Jenkins. When we came back and beat them a few years later, that might have been my favorite SMU game EVER.

I also became a huge Jerry Glanville fan the day after that game, when he took to the national TV airwaves and ripped UH for beating up on a bunch of freshmen and then sent the game ball to Coach Gregg. Glanville was wacky as can be, but that was one of the coolest moves ever by a coach.

I was at the 89 game, and I remember Forrest Gregg looking pretty pissed off, as he talked to Pardee after the game. And I agree with Stallion, in 92 when those freshmen were seniors, they kicked the crap out of cougar high at old Ownby Stadium. Jenkins was the head coach in 92, which made it even sweeter.

I was at both. Never a longer walk out of the Astrodome or a longer ride back. Revenge is sweet, however, and the Freiburger/R. Hill combo was too much for the little kitties.
