Dear Ponies

During TCU-SMU week, I recall old TCU-SMU games that I'd been to in the past. Like the 62-7 blowout in 2000. That was a funny one, because SMU was down 55-0 before finally scoring a TD at the end of the 3rd quarter - followed up by a TCU return for a TD to kill the spirit.
I also remember the 10-6 snooze fest at the Cotton Bowl that you Ponies won in the waning minutes.
There was the 21-10 disaster the week after we'd upset OU in Norman. And the 44-0 thrashing the year before in Ft. Worth.
But the one I remember most was the season finale in 1997. SMU came in at 6-4 and needed one win to secure its first bowl since the death penalty. TCU had floundered to an 0-10 record amidst embarrassing losses in the 16 team WAC.
Yet, TCU pulled the upset in what was Pat Sullivan's last game as a Frog coach, and that game marked the reversal of fortunes for the two programs. SMU has failed to have a winning season since, while TCU has gone on to several top 25 finishes, multiple bowl wins, and of course, a 9-2 edge in the series record, out scoring the ponies 287-81 in that span.
I hope the series continues until the end of college football. And may the best team (the Frogs of course), win.

I recall the tcu campus police masing their students after they upset us in 97 when they rushed the field. Almost made the drive home bareable.

This year will be a big test for the Mustangs. The D looks quite tough for tcu. IF and I do mean IF, we do not turn the ball over, SMU can hang in and make it a game.
My wife and I will be there.
the 21-10 game is my favorite - I took my next door neighbor ( TCU guy ) on his birthday... and we won. Man was he upset.
See you on Saturday.
Go mustangs.

Dear Frog:
I am glad I am old enough to remember the total domination we use to have over the toads, and the foresight to see how it will some day return.

As a freshman, I fondly remember attending our 15th straight win over the frogs, in the Cotton Bowl. I would like to congratulate the frogs on winning 2 in a row over us.

TCU has had a good run, but funny how they forget the years they were crushed by us and everyone else.

Well TCU students weren't even alive in 1986 when the streak ended. So they probably have an excuse.

It wasn't the TCU Police. It was Tarrant County Sheriff's Deputies. TCU officialdom was furious with them over that. They haven't been hired by TCU for game security since. Only FWPD, who are a lot more tolerant with fan celebration.

Actually, SMU's winning streak lasted until 1989 because we didn't play in 87 or 88. Then SMU beat them in 92 and 93, so the tcu winning streak didn't last long.

Ah, I remember SMU-TCU week '23. We were 5-0 coming into the game and were just beating the snot out of everyone. Granted, we only played one away game all season (a&m), but still, we were rollin'. People as far away as Abilene had started to hear about the Mustangs of SMU!
We won 40-0, our first outright win over the frogs! I remember remarking to my best girl that I couldnt wait to see Mr Edison's invention applied to the game of football. Maybe someday we could take in a game at night, just imagine!

I'm sitting here hoping that as the Frogs and Cougers sit home watching the BCS Bowls with their sterling 11-1 records that their lone loss will be to the Ponies.
