It's no secret that injuries are part of the game of football. But injuries like sprained ankles and bruised shoulders just don't compare with what SMU cornerback Derrius Bell went through two weeks ago in Birmingham, when he was knocked out in the Ponies' win at UAB.
Bell is fine, has returned to practice said he plans to play Saturday at TCU. But when a seemingly common cornerback blitz results in unconsciousness and an ambulance ride to the hospital, the ensuing emotions can range from plain fear to gratitude that nothing more serious occurred. In Bell's case, the event has him as eager as ever to get back on the field.
