Wow, Patterson will use anything for motivation

This blurb in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram caught my eye this morning:
[TCU coach Gary] Patterson said he likes [SMU coach June] Jones and considers him a friend, but a remark the coach reportedly made on an area radio station a while back is just one of a few bulletin-board quotes the Frogs will use before the teams meet Saturday. Patterson even pondered the idea of "breaking out the black uniforms for this group."
"Coach Jones said there hadn't been a good football team in the Metroplex in a while," Patterson said, only half-joking. "I got e-mails on it. Maybe he doesn't consider us in the Metroplex."
Lordy. Jones and SMU are plenty aware of TCU's success, this season and for a long stretch now.

If you have a video camera at SMU practice, watch out...

SMU is always careful of what news crews video tape before, after or during practice. But it does seem like this week, what with the TCU game being in the same media market, the coaches are being extra sensitive to what is being filmed. At least a camera crew a day has been questioned this week... Special teams coach Dennis McKnight would make a great bouncer...
On a different topic, coach June Jones is worried about his many friends in Samoa, after the tsunami hit there yesterday. Jones and his foundation serve Samoa with an annual medical mission and football camp. Jones established a recruiting pipeline from there while at Hawaii and has visited at least once a year for the past 11 years.
Finally, SMU is holding a press conference to today to make an announcement involving Jones, Madeleine Pickens, T. Boone Pickens and Roger Staubach and something called "Salute To The Mustangs."
The announcement involves the halftime show of the Navy game here on Oct. 17 - Staubach, of course, played for Navy. Mrs. Pickens' tie-in is associated with her National Wild Horse Foundation. I'll have more details later.
