From Kate Hairopoulos, driving down Central Expressway:

Former Cowboys and Navy quarterback Roger Staubach, T. Boone Pickens and his wife Madeleine held a news conference at SMU today to announce that Madeleine would be donating a Mustang to SMU to accompany Peruna through the National Wild Horse Foundation.

A formal dedication will be Oct. 17 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium when SMU plays Navy.

Having a difficult time believing somebody ok'd this. Change the fb team, not the mascot

It does not sound like they are not changing the mascot, just adding an actual Mustang. Heck, if Colorado can control Ralphie the Buffalo we should be able to control a Mustang. Glad to help out the foundation as well.

If that thing has a rider I'm never giving SMU another dime.

I HATE THAT DAMNED PONY!...I HATE BEING CALLED A PONY!

BOUT FREAKING TIME WE ACTUALLY HAD A HORSE AS A MASCOT!!!

i think they should just slap it and let it go wild on the field for a couple min before the game.

I am soooo glad they are doing this! :D Nothing against Peruna and the tradition that is behind that Pony. ...but we are freaking MUSTANGS! not the Shetland Ponies!

Control will not be an issue, I bet that Peruna is more wild than the Mustang they will bring to the stadium, but this, to me, is a much better mascot!

As a practice run could they turn it loose in the TCU locker room just before game time? :)

GO PONIES!!!

If we won ten games a year no one would give a sh*t about trying to do this. I don't see TCU trying to pump up their grotesque Lisa-Simpsonesque Horned Frog costume. They're the horny toads and it doesn't matter because they actually win football games.

Never mind. And I don't like it. Two horses? No.

This is stupid. Peruna works. A full size horse as a live mascot is stupid. It isn't a bear or a tiger in a cage. All it will be allowed to do is stand there doped up (and they will dope it up). It isn't like they are going to get it to raise up on its hind legs and look intimidating. You can't run with it the way they do Peruna-that would get somebody killed. We might as well have a [deleted] cow. [deleted], have a couple of chickens and ducks, too. Let's have a whole [deleted] petting zoo.

Peruna is the only mascot to kill another team's mascot during a football game. That is worth something.

This is what happens when you lose for 20 years. All traditions, even the good ones, are flushed down the drain.

I second, this is [deleted]. That new horse had better kill something other than what's left of our pride and tradition in its first game.
