Smack talk vs. your Rival -- The Definition

This is the way smack talk should be. I'm sorry, the Keeper of the Star is wrong about this. Nothing is off limits when it comes to going after your rival. Doesn't matter if its football, the cream of botulism color of their buildings, the academics, the talent (or lack thereof) or anything else. Nothing is off the table.
It's all fair game. It's the Rival for crying out loud. I would expect nothing less from them and we're seeing it during the week.
Perfect. Let's keep up the good work.

Breathe if you hate TCU.
I hated TCU before hating TCU was cool.
If your kid goes to TCU, you can always get another kid.

Smack Talk
is something the winner on the field or court does after beating Rival. Its called Braggin Rights-and it lasts usually for 365 days. The loser takes it like a Man, does something about it and gets revenge on field or court. Smack Talk about academics on a Football message board is for LOSERS. [deleted] we got guys on here talking smack against NTSU, SFA, Arkansas St, Louisiana Tech. You know who you are-its pathetic. You IGNORE those schools not lower yourself to claim superiority.

Starting with [deleted], your assessment is correct.

'Smack talk' is the wonderful product of a selfish, boorish poor-sportsmanship culture that screams like a petulant child "look what I did." No place for it on the winning side, IMO.
Point to the scoreboard, and keep your mouth shut.

I understand where you're coming from on this, but I think you can recognize that about 90 percent of this stuff doesn't go anywhere and there's nothing tangible behind it. We're proud that we went to SMU and they are proud they went to TCU. And so it goes.
Just relax. As long as it doesn't get over the edge -- and I would venture to say judging from what's been written this stuff isn't even close -- then it's pretty harmless.
You want to poormouth the Mustang band for dumping the seed at Amon Carter a couple of years ago?
Examples of it being bad are the Tennessee-Alabama rivalry when the FBI got involved in Memphis and when South Carolina frat boys dressed as Clemson football players and tanked the warmups before the 1960 game and the Clemson fans charged the field and chased them off of it?

We won the first one.
We won the last one.
We won the most in between.
Hows that?

General,
Pranks, hijinks et al are a wonderful part of rivalry...would no more hinder that than require SMU fans to sit quietly at games and not disturb the blue-hairs around them...heh...
Stallion's point that we have fallen to such a low place as to concern/validate opponents that at one time SMU grads couldn't locate on a state map is spot-on...the issue that I have is the swaggering, presumed entitlement to put down opponents that occurs too often on(and off) the field after the game is over.
Proud of my school, win or lose? You bet. Ready to tease opponents...no doubt. There is a line, easily recognizable, where this behavior borders on self-serving and arrogant. I find it unseemly.
Words are wasted, just point at the scoreboard, and get ready for next week.

nahh, you and Reedfrawg seem to enjoy tweaking the tail of the lion (pony/large horse/whatever), in an entertaining way.
I have a feeling you may enjoy Saturday more than I will, but IF that other thing happens, I will do my darndest to keep my own petulance to a minimum.

I don't know...someone yelling "Riff, Ram, Bah Zoo, Lickety, Zoo, Who, Wah" in my opinion deserves any and all ridicule that comes his way. I treat the Aggies the same way for their "Hullabaloo, Caneck, Chigaroogarem" babble...but in their case I worry that it might actually be due to Aphasia or some other serious neurological disorder. I've told a few of them that they might actually want to be checked out.
