Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?I say we schedule SMU when it's convenient for us to do so. Every year is a bit much. Do we really have anything to prove to SMU anymore? We've beaten them nine of the last 11 times we've played them. We've been to like 15 bowl games since they've been to one. We've been ranked, I dunno, 100 weeks in the polls since the last time they were.
TCU has taken the step to national power. SMU has long been a national and conference doormat. It's time to schedule them when it works for us, and when it doesn't, who cares? I agree we should play them a few times each decade. But every year might be a bit much in my view. 9 of 11 times? You've won 9 of 11 times and now you want to drop us? We kept you overrated purple pansies on the schedule after wrecking you 15 times in a row. Wanna fix your SOS? Drop Stephen F Austin or Texas State. Admittedly, most of that thread wants to keep SMU every year. But that guy just chapped my rear the wrong way. A Mustang Fan and an SMU Class Of 08 Theatre Major. Believe It.

Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?Nobody is going to beg them to schedule us every year. If they want to go show them the door!

Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?Hold your horses. Far and away, the thrust of the thread was to maintain the rivalry and play you guys every year. There are always the young hot heads who don't understand tradition...they'll mature and realize how important this game is to both programs.
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?I've thought this for a while, and I gotta tell you. If SMU isn't worth something by the time JJ's contract is up, I'm afraid SMU football may be gone forever.

Applebowden will be waiting...
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?
Be careful of those young hot heads, Purpl; next thing you know they will want to replace your mascot with kermit the frog because he has a higher national profile. "It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?From 1972 to 1986, SMU was 15-0 against TCU.
Should we have stopped playing the Frogs because we had nothing to prove???....Of course not, that is stupid talk. Hey Frogs, there is a reason we won 15 years in a row. Not because of cheating, not because of coaching, not even because of our mascots. We beat you for 15 straight years because when we put our minds to it, SMU is superior to TCU. That is a FACT...Deal with it. It is also why so many on this board, myself included, seem perpetually [deleted]*d off. We know our potential. Losing to TCU is like UT losing to Tech...sure it happens, but rarely. Never should we be 28 point dogs to the likes of you. There are 4 universities that carry clout in this State....guess what....you are not one of them.

Babyfroggie, Go back to getting snockered at the frat house, no such talk by SMOO after the 1972-86 domination, with 15 straight...gud luck at your intramural volleyball game this weekend Life after Death (Penalty)
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?There wasn't any discussion only because Al Gore hadn't invented the internet and message boards yet.
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?methinks the Froggies are just getting nervous that SMU is getting up in their panties especially as we are moving up in the recruiting ranks.......they are like the little country dog in the city...if they stand still ,the bigger dogs try to *&^% them in their arse and if they run they get bitten in the arse...
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?We aren't going to come close to their recruiting rankings. Please. We'll finish no higher than 75-85 just about where we do every average year. Its competitive in CUSA not competitive with the TCUs, Houstons, Southern Miss etc. . We are 4th now in total points-7th in average points but we are close to done.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Be careful what you wish for.... ![]()
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?Yeah its pretty scary to think of what might happen to SMU football if June doesn't get it turned around. Is the possibility of disbanding the football program seriously a reality?
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?
It is stupid talk, since those were conference games, and you can't just stop scheduling a conference game against a team because you beat them a lot.
Probably time to start getting your minds back in order, isn't it?
Define "rarely".
While you may have forgotten, I'm sure Vegas is still considering the fact that SMU has won 2 games total in its past 2 seasons when determining the team's odds.
There's really only one university that carries clout in the state of Texas, and I'm pretty it's not SMU.
Re: Topic From TCU Boards: Should TCU stop playing SMU?
Having professional players on your team at the time probably didn't hurt either. Since you guys started using college athletes again, you are 5-14 against TCU. Besides, what does it mean to "put your minds to it"? You guys just decide to stop caring around the time Clinton was impeached? Football no longer interesting to you?
What kind of math are teaching in Dallas where 14 times out of 19 tries is considered "rare". Do you think it's rare to see the Sun come in the East as well?
Since 2000, SMU has lost to TCU by 28 points or more 4 times, 2000 (62-7), 2001 (38-10), 2004 (44-0), and 2008 (48-7). In fact, since 2000, the aggregate score of our rivalry is 260-71. That's an average score of 33-8, almost 28 points by itself.
